Scenes from the Weekend: 9/1/26

Good morning!

I love a morning when I can wake up before an alarm (the digital kind or the kid version).

Everyone’s still asleep and it’s just me cozied up on the couch. And let me tell you. This is the best couch we’ve owned together as a couple. It’s nothing extraordinary, but Ankur and I took my Ikea couch from California to Tennessee. And then we rented furniture while in Moreno Valley and the couches were just meh. And then we Marketplaced two pretty average couches while in Chicago. BUT NOW. I feel like I’m living the life.

The only picture I have of said couch right now.

This wasn’t even supposed to be our couch. We were going to pick some up from a couple who was moving TO Chicago and gifting them to us for free. But then, when we went to pick up a bed frame, THAT couple was trying to sell us this couch because they were moving back to Singapore. And I hemmed and hawed about it for a second, but then was like YEAH LETS DO IT. So we got a great deal for a great couch. And obviously the corner spot – where I’m currently sitting – is the best spot. It will have my butt print on it, you have my word.

We’ve Marketplaced our whole apartment over the past two weeks and I’m pretty impressed with us.

I love that we didn’t get new furniture, but we also managed to furnish our whole place with a hodgepodge of things that came together pretty nicely.

I think Facebook Marketplace is my new favorite hobby.

Okay, anyway. That was a tangent I absolutely did not intend to take.

I’m here to talk about the weekend!

Isha was visiting from North Carolina. So on Friday, Ryu and I went to brunch with Akta and Isha at Sweet Maple. We shared the millionaire’s bacon – which was the best part of the whole brunch. No, scratch that. The ube latte was the best and now I’m craving that and maybe Ankur and I should go there to get one after we drop Ishu off at school. (I’m loving the fact that Ankur has been off work and what am I even gonna do with my life when he starts work next week?!).

In the evening, we met some kiddos and parents from Riyu’s preschool class at De Anza Park. Then we all went out for pho for dinner.

On Saturday, we trekked up to the Presidio for a fun family picnic! The big kid enjoyed kicking the soccer ball around, and the little kid enjoyed kicking his mama around (I kid…kind of….).

Bhabhi packed a bunch of snacks, everyone packed a bunch of sweets, and we all enjoyed the nice, windy beautiful day outside. And the view of the Golden Gate Bridge!

We also celebrated Raksha Bandhan and Jiya had her work cut out for her with 5 NorCal brothers. Busy lady! She made little paper phones for all of the brothers and Ishu is obsessed with his.

We also picked Goddess cards. My personal favorite picnic activity. And everyone, yet again, believed in the power of the goddesses.

On Sunday, Ankur and Mom got back from New York!

And we spent a few hours in San Ramon before making our way back to Cupertino. It’s weird that Ishu’s school schedule dictates our life. I’ve gotten so used to him being in a Montessori where I could pull him outta school whenever the heck I wanted. Time’s are a’changing.

And then yesterday – even though it wasn’t a weekend – I got a pedicure and then drove around town collecting items from Marketplace. Including two new plants that I love and need to name.

After we picked Ishu up from school, we all went to Yogurtland (BOGO ON YOGURT – THEY HATE TO SEE US COMING).

And then the kids spent over an hour playing with their fun sensory kits from Auntie Jenn. What a fun surprise in the mail. (And a fun hour for me of PEACE AND QUIET!).

Now here we are. Tuesday.

My goal for the week is to find a home for everything in this apartment. My goal for TODAY is to finally get everything off the floor. Let’s see if we can accomplish it, yeah?

Have a good one!
