March 2026 Recap
I’m here!
I don’t know how people manage to cook the healthy food, lift the heavy weights, be present with the children, read the books, play the pickleball, stay connected to the friends and family, and do dishes and laundry on top of all the other things that you gotta do as an adult.
It’s so much.
Anyway, I’ve clearly backed out of the blogging bit for right now to make space for the other stuff.
So, for today, here’s a recap of the last month.
This month:
- I’ve been reading a ton! I got 9 books in this month. Never mind the fact that three of them were cowboy-themed. (More on that in the next post). But you know what’s the best part of my book world now? Ishu’s been loving the Dragon Masters series and we can just hang out side-by-side and read our respective books and it’s the absolute best best best.
- We’ve been bringing Uno back to life. We went through a lull where we weren’t really playing a ton of Uno and, somehow, it’s been given a new life and we’ve been playing non-stop. We may or may not have played a few rounds during dinner to keep one of these kiddos sittin’ a bit longer.
- We’ve been loving Ishu’s new teacher. I was worried when he had to pop back into the 3-6yo class after getting a little taste of the Elementary class (his teacher quit so they closed down the Elementary program earlier than expected). We thought the transition would be hard. It wasn’t. And we’re obsessed with his new teacher and all the things he’s been getting to do at school.
- We traveled to both SoCal and NorCal for a quick trip. Lots of family time, pickleball, and a round of tennis (where I thought the rackets were fake because they seemed way too big and the ball was too bouncy. Clearly I’ve been spending a little too much time playing Pickleball).
- I’ve been attending lots of book-ish events! A Q&A with Katie from BR&B + Ariel Sullivan. A wine and cheese night at Passages. A cowboy-themed dinner at Brittany’s! It’s been so fun getting so many nights in with my favorite book people!
- We’ve been ordering a lot of fried rice. It’s one of those things that Riyu will just eat without putting up too much of a fight. So now I’m determined to chop everything real small and make everything into some type of rice dish. Because a 2 year old wants what he wants. And if I can sneak some veggies in somehow, I’m gonna do it.
- I’m learning how to play Chess! My friend, Melissa, told me you can learn chess on Duolingo. I’ve never actually learned how to play. And, pre-kids, Ankur tried to teach me but I dug my heels in and said, “No way, no how, I have no patience for this.” But now I have a kiddo who likes to play chess so I feel pretty determined to learn! I’m learning!
- Soaking up the beautiful weather when we can get it! This past Sunday and Monday were SO GOOD. Now we’ve got a bunch of rain. That’s April in Chicago for ya. But these beautiful days we’re getting make me so happy for what’s to come (and also so emotional for what we leave behind).
- Continuing to document the cute things Riyu says. Like,
- When I told him “you can’t go on the swing because it’s not available right now” and “why don’t we try the slide instead?” He responded that HE couldn’t go on the slide right now “because it was too available.”
- When he said, “I don’t want to see the cockroaches” at the zoo, I responded with, “me either,” to which he responded with, “me either too.”
- When I mixed a little Honey Bunches of Oats into his cereal, he pushed his bowl away and screamed, “I DON’T WANT HUNCHY DE BOATS.”
- When I asked him if he loved me, he said yeah. When I asked how much, he said, “The good one.” A few minutes later, I asked if he loved me and he nodded. When I asked how much, he said, “Four days.” GOD I WANNA EAT HIM.
- When I told him “you can’t go on the swing because it’s not available right now” and “why don’t we try the slide instead?” He responded that HE couldn’t go on the slide right now “because it was too available.”
Three things I want to be better about in April:
- Using my planner. I’m always so much happier when I can have some skeleton of a week planned. It’s so much easier to pivot from set plans rather than trying to wing it as we go along.
- writing reviews right after I finish the book rather than jumping straight into the next book.
- fill my breakfast with protein. I’m much more satiated throughout the day when I can just make some eggs and not eat the soggy Hunchy de Boats.
