Summer 2026

Wow, it’s been a while, huh.

We said goodbye to our favorite city and some of our favorite people. It was emotional and rushed and hard and heartbreaking. I miss everyone so much.

At the same time, we aren’t quite settled over here so it still feels (to me, at least) like we are on a very long vacation to California.

Long story short, we didn’t have a place lined up before we flew out because we were lucky enough to stay with parents in San Ramon. Once we found a place, we wanted to wait as late as possible to start our lease because we knew we’d be hangin’ with the grandparents and cousins before school starts in August.

So we have a place. We are not quite moved in.

There are still stacks of boxes everywhere and we don’t quite have furniture to call it a ‘home’ yet. But we are excited about where we are living. A complex with lots of families. Our downstairs neighbors are a fam with a 5-year old and a 2-year old. And it seems like there are always kids running around the place which feels perfect.

We just got to SoCal and are going to spend the rest of the summer here. And by the time we get back, Ishu will be ready to start first grade! Can’t believe it.

It’s been an eventful couple months. Moving out, moving in, a trip to Paso Robles, reunions with family and friends, an injured SI joint, and a few kidney stones thrown in for good measure.

I constantly have the Daniel Tiger song stuck in my head. “Sometimes you feel two feelings at the same time and that’s OK.”

That’s exactly what this season has felt like. SO much excitement for what’s ahead. Paired with this big, heavy grief for the place (and the people) we left behind.

I know that in the next couple weeks, it’s not going to feel like we are on a vacation anymore. The boxes will disappear. The furniture will arrive. We will, hopefully, get into some type of rhythm and routine. So until then, I’m trying to let myself feel both things at once. Grateful for this new chapter and grateful for the one we just closed.
