Spicy Grapefruit Jalapeno Margaritas

Fresh, sweet grapefruit puree, lime juice and jalapeno-infused tequila make these Spicy Grapefruit Jalapeno Margaritas a super summery delight.

These past couple of weeks have been so busy for me. I worked 14 days in a row, a couple of those days being 12+ hour shifts, and I finished up another semester of school and finals. To celebrate and relax a bit, I went out for some $1 margaritas and it reminded me how much I love sweet, salty, boozy things. And, yes, cheap liquor is always great. But for my own recipe I wanted to kick it up a notch from any traditional margarita recipe. The secret? SPICE.

These drinks don’t just have jalapenos thrown in all willy-nilly. In this recipe, the tequila is actually infused with the spicy goodness of the peppers. It’s some next level shit. To make this infusing magic happen, all you have to do is soak your tequila with one full sliced-up jalapeno. Let it sit for up to half an hour, and then, bam! Time for spicy shots!

Okay, don’t do that. Save it for the real margaritas.

In a shaker, add all your drink’s ingredients together, shake em up, and pour into your pre-prepared salt rimmed glass. Oh and here’s another thing… I couldn’t make a spicy-infused drink and not kick up the spice level on the rim as well. These glasses are coated in a salt and chili powder mixture. Um, YES.

All you do is take a slice out of your grapefruit, turn the glass upside down and twist into the grapefruit. I found that this is the quickest way to coat the rim. You could also just rub a slice of grapefruit or lime around the rim as well. Once the rim is nice and juiced up, twist the rim into a salt and chili powder mixture to coat the rim.

And really, that’s it. After this drink, it has been confirmed that tequila is my one true love and margaritas are the key to my heart. These drinks are the perfect mix of every flavor and sensation you could want in a drink, and they’re so perfect for warm weather. One sip and all I wanna do is sit by the pool and have rounds after rounds of this spicy goodness delivered straight to my cabana. If only…

Spicy Grapefruit Jalapeno Margaritas

Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Salt
  • 4 oz. Tequila
  • 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice
  • 4 oz. Lime Juice
  • 2 Jalapenos
  • 2 fl. oz. Simple Syrup
  • 2 cups Ice
Instructions
  1. -Salted Rim:
  2. Combine Salt and Chili Powder on small plate, mix
  3. Twist rim of glass into slice of Grapefruit or rub with lime wedge to wet the rim
  4. Twist the rim in the salt mixture
  5. Cut jalapenos into thin slices
  6. Pour tequila into cup and add 3-6 slices of jalapenos, let sit for 20-30 minutes. The more jalapenos and longer time will make it spicier
  7. In your cocktail mixer, add Ice, Tequila, Grapefruit Juice, Lime Juice and Simple Syrup
  8. Shake until well mixed
  9. Pour into pre-prepared glasses, garnish with jalapenos, lime wedges and grapefruit slices

And don’t forget.. these things are freakin infused with jalapeno spiciness. If you weren’t already getting the ingredients to make these when you read that the first time, then I guess I’ve lost you. The combination of sweet, salty and spicy will blow your mind — and if anything, get you ready for the weekend.
