September Lately: Atlanta, Seattle, and the Beginning of Fall

And before I had even unpacked my suitcase from our long weekend in Atlanta, it was time to pack my suitcase for Seattle! I’ll be spending the next few days in Seattle for Hema’s bachelorette party and I, for one, cannot WAIT.

I’m typing this up from my gate as I wait for my flight to board. Since we live about an hour and a half from the airport, I always end up getting here way earlier than I need to because we typically like to leave a little time for the (non-existent) traffic out here in Tennessee.

Figured I would do a little update since I have the time and I haven’t posted in a while.

Lately, we’ve been….

Eating

Lots of eggs and oils and avocados and greens. If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen that I shifted up my diet a little to bit to increase the fats and decrease the carbs. It requires a whole mindset shift. And, this month, I feel like I’m walking around the grocery store for the very first time because I’m shopping for ingredients that I never thought I would EVER use. I’ve only been at it for a few weeks, but I’m already noticing a difference in my ability to BE full and STAY full for longer periods of time. (Prior to this shift, my hunger levels were out of control all day, every day). As a result, I’m eating a whole lot less and NOT thinking about food all the time. And it just feels oh-so-good.

Hiking

We spent this past Labor Day weekend in the Atlanta area with our parents and got to take them out on the trails and experience all the GREENERY out here. California is having a major heat wave right now and I think it was a nice little escape from it all. (Seriously, our country is experiencing all sorts of weird changes. CLIMATE CHANGE IS ALL TOO REAL).

Wearing

Long dresses (with pockets) have been my default this summer but I think this is the last and final week of the dresses because FALL IS COMING. And I’m a-okay with it.

Watching

Labor Day fireworks! Surprisingly, our teeny-tiny town pulls off an amazing show each year for Labor Day. After driving back from Atlanta, Ankur and I went to Nicole and Stefan’s house for dinner and then we all drove out to watch the fireworks from the LMU campus. We all huddled together on a hill near the DCOM building and ooh-ed and aah-ed over all the shimmery sparkles in the sky. My favorites were the hearts and the smiley faced fireworks. How do they even make those?

As I mentioned above, I’m really trying to pay attention to my macros instead of counting calories and I’m discovering all these new items that are filling and fulfill all my cravings! Hema suggested I buy these Quest bars for when I’m in need of an emergency meal/snack. And now I’m the newest Quest bar addict.

I also bought these coconut wraps from Thrive Market and have been wrapping up my eggs with avocado in the morning and it’s quite the treat. Not only is it delicious but it keeps me pretty full for 4-5 hours.

I’ve been consulting the goddess cards a lot lately. There are days when the breaking news alerts about flooding and hurricanes makes my heart ache. And following all the things that this administration does makes me want to pull my hair out. There’s just a lot going on out there in the world. It can be hard to disconnect and remove yourself from the endless cycle of bad news. But, the goddesses could sense that. And knew exactly what I needed.

A trip to Seattle.

With my sisters.

Near the water.

To recharge my battery and come back stronger.

Seattle – here we come. Hope you’re ready for us!

Questions of the Day:

  • What did you do for Labor Day weekend?
  • What have you been eating lately? Doing lately? Buying lately?
