Same Court. Different People.

Ankur and I are really different from each other.

He likes sweet. I like savory.

He’s an introvert. I’m an extrovert.

He’s a homebody. I get itchy if I’m home for too long.

He’s a minimalist. I really wanna be one but don’t quite get there.

He eats the same thing for breakfast every day. If you make me eat eggs on repeat, I will lose my mind.

I run on caffeine. He somehow made it through medical school, residency, and fellowship on a tall glass of milk each day.

There are a zillion other ways we’re different, but one of my favorites is this:

I am DEEPLY, AGGRESSIVELY interested in people. And he just sort of keeps his head down and moves about his day. He cares about HIS people (me, the kids, our circle), but he’s not out here making small talk with his co-workers, y’know?

It’s been kinda comical.

I remember asking him about an attending he worked with. Where in Chicago she lived. I wanted to send her a thank-you gift card to a nearby restaurant. He had no idea. And it completely boggled my mind. Like WHAT? You stand next to this woman all day and you don’t just ask the basic questions?!

Anyway, today was Pickleball Sunday. We started on separate courts, then rotated around and played with pretty much everyone. It was a small group.

At the end, when Ankur and I were playing our final game, I noticed two people go over to the other court to practice serves. Helen and Chris. At one point, Helen grabbed Chris’ arm affectionately.

I turned back to Ankur and said, “OMG Are Helen and Chris MARRIED?”

And he goes, “I didn’t know those were their names.”

HAHAHAHAH.

I’m laughing to myself as I’m typing this. Because it’s just so funny and so indicative of how different we are.

I wanna know EVERYTHING about EVERYONE. And he just, y’know, plays Pickleball.

  1. I think opposites must attract or just balance each other out . We are much the same . Maybe introverts need an extrovert to enjoy life more and vice versa
. and then theres the basic differences of men’s and women’s brains . “Men are from Mars , Women are from Venus “ book had some valid points .. women are interested in other people and so many things and we multi task. Men not so much
Men are happy if they are fed and appreciated haha
