Friday Five: 1/27/17

Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!

I’m keeping this one nice and short because, in true end-of-week fashion, I’ve let myself sleep in this morning. Like most people, I get more and more exhausted as the week drags on. But, luckily, we’ve reached Friday and there’s a 40% chance of snow. Which means I will likely be glued to my bed this weekend.

Hope you all have a nice weekend!

1. I’m on the last and final episode of Parks and Rec and I’m dragging it out as long as I possibly can because I know I’ll be so sad when it’s over. I just want a Ron Swanson and Leslie Knope in my life.

2. You’ve gotta watch this short clip of Obama cracking himself up. Gosh, I love that human.

3. I need to make this Weight Watchers recipe again. Maybe this weekend. It tastes so creamy and delicious, but it’s really low in points. (Assuming you don’t eat the whole pot.)

4. Apparently, Alexa is not such a fun gadget for everyone. Especially those named Alexa.

5. I read this poem back when I was in my graduate program. It still gives me goosebumps. This is for all those amazing parents out there raising a child with a disability. You inspire me each and every day.

  1. I just finished the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls. This weekend I’ll probably be working on some projects around the house.

I love that poem too. I actually met a little girl named Holland once.

  2. I am getting my taxes done. This means that today I have to actually finish entering everything from two businesses. Nothing like last minute! Also hoping to watch some more Gilmore Girls with my oldest daughter. Total side note, but her name IS Alexa. My brother has an echo, and I made a point to not tell her. She was so confused when he kept asking “her” to turn on songs, what the weather was, etc. we finally told her.. but that was a hilarious first hour!

  3. That Weight Watchers recipe sounds awesome, no wonder you want to make it again. This weekend, I’ll be working on my husband’s family home, and catching up on episodes of Chicago Med

  4. That Obama clip <3 <3 <3 LOVE that man so much. And his dad jokes. They are so very missed.

Aww, I remember and totally forgot about that Holland poem! Beautiful. I'm not sure (personally) that that is what parenthood is like (from experience, I mean) but I'm excited about the prospect… one day!

Enjoy your snow day! Here in NJ, it's still bright and sunny and weird and not at all like what a winter typically feels like. Hello, GLOBAL WARMING.

Hope you have a great weekend, love! XOXO

  5. I dont think I will be doing much this weekend. It is so cold outside and the grey icy weather has really thrown me off my writing and I am lacking motivation.

  6. This week has been so long! I just need sleep and me time but instead on my way to work! This weekend is Chinese New Year so I’ll be spending it with family. Hopefully I. And get some sleep. HAVE FRIDAY!

  7. Parks and Rec was amazing. I miss it, but i think I might watch it again from the beginning. Ron Swanson is hilarious. Have you read Nick Offerman’s book “Paddle Your Own Canoe”?

  8. We just finished re-watching Leverage on Netflix for like the 4th time. We love that show! We’re now back on White Collar, and testing our Gilmore Girls…but the first episode was so slow and boring…I don’t want to watch any more.

I love the poem you posted. That is a great way to think about parents with special needs children. I work with some through our church. It’s a wonderful opportunity.

  9. I’m currently addicted to Designated Survivor and This Is Us. I always tend to get behind though so I need to catch up on some of This is Us.

That Chilli recipe looks AMAZING! I need to try it sometime, thank you for sharing!

  10. Barack Obama sure is a great guy. I generally dislike politicians and politics as a whole, but Barack seems like a genuinely nice guy. It’s a shame he had to go.

  11. that poem is so interesting. What a great outlook on life. It’s so true that we love to pout about not being able to “go to Italy” and we should be more aware of what’s around us. Hope you have a good weekend, even if there is snow!

  12. Thanks for sharing your poem! I really love how it gives a different perspective of having a child with a disability… I still watch Grey’s Anatomy and I was so glad it came in again this week!! Take care!

  14. My fourth time watching The Walking Dead series on Netflix. Can never get enough of that and Bates Motel, haha! Beautiful poem by the way

  15. I love the poem and that is completely true. I have three and we do think its gonna be sparkles and unicorns and its poop and vomit lol but it is magical and the best of me. I never watched parks and rec but I do love netflix bingeing

  16. The poem does a great job of summing up parenthood. I had all these ides of what kind of a mother I would be a whole plan on how I would raise my son, and 50% of it never happened. Planning and what happens does not always add up.

  17. Friday is something we all look forward to. it has become like the silver lining we look for in a cloud. But Friday rings in the weekend and the weekend is over in no time.

  18. I’m currently watching loads of documentaries on Netflix about American prisons and notorious court cases. I want to get into a new series but I don’t know where to start!

  19. First of all, did you re-brand? Your blog is gorgeous and either I was just not noticing before, or you had an awesome re-brand. Beautiful!
And that weight-watchers recipe looks awesome!

  20. We are watching Gotham, Sleepy Hollow (but I hate that Abby is gone), Grimm, Timeless, FaceOff, Speechless, The Middle, Big Bang Theory, and Pretty Little Liars. PLL will be in it’s last season when it airs soon. I know that I am going to bawl like a baby. I’ve watched it from the beginning and just not ready for it to end.

  21. I just finished the months-long process of watching all the Gilmore Girls episodes. I never watched it when it first came out, and I really enjoyed it – I didn’t like the reboot nearly as much as the show itself though.

  22. I really need to love Parks & Rec, I can’t believe I haven’t watched it yet, everyone’s been talking about it for years ha! PS- You gotta love Obama, he’s ace! x

  23. I rented Hell or High Water this weekend at Redbox. I was curious to see it since it is nominated for so many awards. I really liked it. It is a bit slow in some places, but so interesting. Not your usual western.

  24. How funny! we received Alexa as a Christmas gift and have yet to set it up, mostly because we’re moving. I’m excited for the many laughs we will have using it.

  25. Love Parks & Rec. I wish it would never end. That is an incredible beautiful poem! Thank you so much for sharing. It’s the most perfect metaphor for embracing an unexpected situation.

  26. It’s been a long time since I watched Parks and Rec, it’s a great show! I love watching clips of Barrack and the rest of the family, they’re so funny and cute! I’d still like to have my very own “alexa”!

  27. I just had a chance to watch that clip of Obama and that was really amazing for sure, such a nice human being he is. I am up for any such Weight Watchers recipe and hoping it could be worth to try out.

  28. I’m currently watching Parks & Rec as well! This is my second watch of the full show but I’m currently on the part where Leslie and Ben start dating (aw!). This weekend is just going to be schoolwork and Sunday dinner with my parents.

  29. The weight watchers recipe sounds great! I’m training for a 5k and need some good, healthy recipes to help me. I had to strip the Obama video…not a fan.
