Friday Five: 1/27/17

Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!
I’m keeping this one nice and short because, in true end-of-week fashion, I’ve let myself sleep in this morning. Like most people, I get more and more exhausted as the week drags on. But, luckily, we’ve reached Friday and there’s a 40% chance of snow. Which means I will likely be glued to my bed this weekend.
Hope you all have a nice weekend!
__
1. I’m on the last and final episode of Parks and Rec and I’m dragging it out as long as I possibly can because I know I’ll be so sad when it’s over. I just want a Ron Swanson and Leslie Knope in my life.
2. You’ve gotta watch this short clip of Obama cracking himself up. Gosh, I love that human.
3. I need to make this Weight Watchers recipe again. Maybe this weekend. It tastes so creamy and delicious, but it’s really low in points. (Assuming you don’t eat the whole pot.)
4. Apparently, Alexa is not such a fun gadget for everyone. Especially those named Alexa.
5. I read this poem back when I was in my graduate program. It still gives me goosebumps. This is for all those amazing parents out there raising a child with a disability. You inspire me each and every day.

Questions of the Day:
- What show are you currently watching?
- What are you doing this weekend?

I’m watching season break season 2. Other than that, I don’t watch so much TV. I’m planning to have a good me time over the weekend and work most of the day on Sunday.
Nice weekend

I just finished the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls. This weekend I’ll probably be working on some projects around the house.
I love that poem too. I actually met a little girl named Holland once.
I am getting my taxes done. This means that today I have to actually finish entering everything from two businesses. Nothing like last minute! Also hoping to watch some more Gilmore Girls with my oldest daughter. Total side note, but her name IS Alexa. My brother has an echo, and I made a point to not tell her. She was so confused when he kept asking “her” to turn on songs, what the weather was, etc. we finally told her.. but that was a hilarious first hour!
As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, I am very familiar with the Welcome To Holland essay. It’s a great perspective to have. I have seen Parks and Rec but it didn’t do it for me.
Parks and Rec has a very satisfying finale. Plus when it’s over you can just do what we do and scroll back up to episode 1 and start again! Seriously, most of the jokes are funny even the 4th or 5th time around. 😀
That Weight Watchers recipe sounds awesome, no wonder you want to make it again. This weekend, I’ll be working on my husband’s family home, and catching up on episodes of Chicago Med
That Obama clip <3 <3 <3 LOVE that man so much. And his dad jokes. They are so very missed.
Aww, I remember and totally forgot about that Holland poem! Beautiful. I'm not sure (personally) that that is what parenthood is like (from experience, I mean) but I'm excited about the prospect… one day!
Enjoy your snow day! Here in NJ, it's still bright and sunny and weird and not at all like what a winter typically feels like. Hello, GLOBAL WARMING.
Hope you have a great weekend, love! XOXO
I dont think I will be doing much this weekend. It is so cold outside and the grey icy weather has really thrown me off my writing and I am lacking motivation.
This week has been so long! I just need sleep and me time but instead on my way to work! This weekend is Chinese New Year so I’ll be spending it with family. Hopefully I. And get some sleep. HAVE FRIDAY!
I really like the show Hunted. Looking forward to watch which team wins.
Parks and Rec was amazing. I miss it, but i think I might watch it again from the beginning. Ron Swanson is hilarious. Have you read Nick Offerman’s book “Paddle Your Own Canoe”?
That video of Obama is hilarious!
I just finished watching House of Cards on Netflix and cannot wait for the next season!
We just finished re-watching Leverage on Netflix for like the 4th time. We love that show! We’re now back on White Collar, and testing our Gilmore Girls…but the first episode was so slow and boring…I don’t want to watch any more.
I love the poem you posted. That is a great way to think about parents with special needs children. I work with some through our church. It’s a wonderful opportunity.
I have never actually seen Parks and Rec, I keep hearing it is good though so I should probably binge watch it.
I’m currently addicted to Designated Survivor and This Is Us. I always tend to get behind though so I need to catch up on some of This is Us.
That Chilli recipe looks AMAZING! I need to try it sometime, thank you for sharing!
I haven’t tried a weight watchers recipe before but I’d love to. Parks and Rec sounds like something I’d get into, I’ll check it out.
We loved Parks and Rec! So sad when it eneded!
Thanks for numbers two and four- I needed a good laugh and both of those item did the job:) The video is priceless!
Gorgeous poem, it really makes you look at life different and how sometimes even though we plan something a certain way life has a funny way of changing it’s course.
Should I try parks and rec? I go back and forth but everyone seems to love it. Maybe ill try it!
Barack Obama sure is a great guy. I generally dislike politicians and politics as a whole, but Barack seems like a genuinely nice guy. It’s a shame he had to go.
I have never seen Parks & Rec, I will have to look into it. The poem was really beautiful; puts things into perspective. Great blog.
that poem is so interesting. What a great outlook on life. It’s so true that we love to pout about not being able to “go to Italy” and we should be more aware of what’s around us. Hope you have a good weekend, even if there is snow!
I love that poem because there is so much truth to it! We’ve been thinking about getting into a new comedy series but I’m not sure which one.
I love this! That recipe sounds delicious and that poem does give me goosebumps. Thank you for sharing with us!
I need a real life Ron Swanson and Leslie Knope in my life, too. Have a great weekend!
Watching a subtitled foreign series called Kurt Seyet and Sura on Netflix. Enjoyed your post.
I LOVED Parks and rec!!!!! I wanted to weep when I finished it. I think it has been one of my favorite shows to date. I really enjoyed Stranger Things, House of Cards, and Portlandia as well!
I’m watchign several series on Netflix right now and need to find more because I’m about to be in a show hole. That’s the bad part about binge watching.
Thanks for sharing your poem! I really love how it gives a different perspective of having a child with a disability… I still watch Grey’s Anatomy and I was so glad it came in again this week!! Take care!
Good to know that you liked Parks and Rec, it’s a fun show. I think it’s still a nice gadget though, sorry for people who are named Alexa. I think Obama’s awesome as well!
My fourth time watching The Walking Dead series on Netflix. Can never get enough of that and Bates Motel, haha! Beautiful poem by the way
I love the poem and that is completely true. I have three and we do think its gonna be sparkles and unicorns and its poop and vomit lol but it is magical and the best of me. I never watched parks and rec but I do love netflix bingeing
The poem does a great job of summing up parenthood. I had all these ides of what kind of a mother I would be a whole plan on how I would raise my son, and 50% of it never happened. Planning and what happens does not always add up.
After the week I’ve had I am really glad it is Friday and almost the weekend.
This weekend is the kick-off for Girl Scout cookie season, so we will be busy peddling sweets. I actually really look forward to it though!
I’m watching New Girl and dying of laughter. I’m very sad for you and finishing Parks & Rec it’s like that Comcast commercial about the show hole.
Ahhh P&R is my favorite! <3 The last episode was hard, but SO GOOD. They nailed the finale. And thanks for that recipe. I'll have to give it a try 🙂
Friday is something we all look forward to. it has become like the silver lining we look for in a cloud. But Friday rings in the weekend and the weekend is over in no time.
I’m currently watching loads of documentaries on Netflix about American prisons and notorious court cases. I want to get into a new series but I don’t know where to start!
First of all, did you re-brand? Your blog is gorgeous and either I was just not noticing before, or you had an awesome re-brand. Beautiful!
And that weight-watchers recipe looks awesome!
We are watching Gotham, Sleepy Hollow (but I hate that Abby is gone), Grimm, Timeless, FaceOff, Speechless, The Middle, Big Bang Theory, and Pretty Little Liars. PLL will be in it’s last season when it airs soon. I know that I am going to bawl like a baby. I’ve watched it from the beginning and just not ready for it to end.
This weekend I’m working on our taxes. I also need to write a few blog posts.
I just finished the months-long process of watching all the Gilmore Girls episodes. I never watched it when it first came out, and I really enjoyed it – I didn’t like the reboot nearly as much as the show itself though.
I really need to love Parks & Rec, I can’t believe I haven’t watched it yet, everyone’s been talking about it for years ha! PS- You gotta love Obama, he’s ace! x
I am currently binge watching Drop Dead Diva on Netflix. I watched the OA and loved it as well.
We’re celebrating Spring Festival this weekend. Spent an enjoyable time with my family for tim sum in Chinatown. Have a great weekend!
We ate all three meals out, and went to see the play An American in Paris. Now we are home, catching up on This is Us. Great play, fantastic food, great tv!
I rented Hell or High Water this weekend at Redbox. I was curious to see it since it is nominated for so many awards. I really liked it. It is a bit slow in some places, but so interesting. Not your usual western.
In winters, I love spending the weekend in the warm quilt and watching the cricket.
How funny! we received Alexa as a Christmas gift and have yet to set it up, mostly because we’re moving. I’m excited for the many laughs we will have using it.
Check it out! I nominated you! https://entirelyerika.wordpress.com/2017/01/29/the-mystery-blogger-award/
Such a beautiful poem! I’ve been Netflix binging too – Roku is becoming an addiction! That recipe looks amazing also, yum!
I am currently catching up on some of the newer shows on Hulu. I just finished watching Frazier on Netflix. I didn’t realize how funny that show was.
Love Parks & Rec. I wish it would never end. That is an incredible beautiful poem! Thank you so much for sharing. It’s the most perfect metaphor for embracing an unexpected situation.
I love that poem what an interesting outlook!! I have never watched Parks & Recreation, but I love Chris Pratt, so I know I should lol.
That seems like a fun week.I like Obama too.But I feel though he was a great person he didn’t quite live upto the promise. It’s like a list opportunity
Lol, I was the same way with Parks and Rec! I was actually sad when it ended. Leslie Knope is definitely my spirit animal.
I never would have thought about Alexa with people named that! The Weight Watcher recipe looks amazing, I need to try that out.
We are watching a show called Nickida, on Netflix. We don’t have cable, but enjoy Netflix shows.
I need to go back and finish watching parks & rec. I think I stopped at the last season for some reason.
I’ve always thought about watching Parks and Rec. I’m almost done with Gilmore Girls so I need a new Netflix show hehe
It’s been a long time since I watched Parks and Rec, it’s a great show! I love watching clips of Barrack and the rest of the family, they’re so funny and cute! I’d still like to have my very own “alexa”!
I just had a chance to watch that clip of Obama and that was really amazing for sure, such a nice human being he is. I am up for any such Weight Watchers recipe and hoping it could be worth to try out.
My husband and I love watching NCIS. Trying to finish working on this truck so it will be out of our way.
I just caught up on all Chicago PD and How to get away with murder. Finally. The weekend is over and now the week is here.
I’m currently watching Parks & Rec as well! This is my second watch of the full show but I’m currently on the part where Leslie and Ben start dating (aw!). This weekend is just going to be schoolwork and Sunday dinner with my parents.
The weight watchers recipe sounds great! I’m training for a 5k and need some good, healthy recipes to help me. I had to strip the Obama video…not a fan.
Wow, love the poem. So touching and true to life! The weight watchers recipe is an awesome one, for health and taste!
I would still very much want to have Alexa. I’d love to get that weight watchers recipe as well. I really enjoyed reading your poem.
Got me right in the feels. I live in “Holland”… and sometimes, even with as much as I adore “Holland,” I still think wistfully of “Italy.”
