Work on It. Every Single Day.

Happy Pajama Day!

It’s Spirit Week at our school today and our school leaders, thankfully, placed Pajama Day on Monday. What a way to finish out the weekend/start off the week. I did chase a few kids around in those fancy slippers of mine.

Needless to say, those wore out pretty quickly and I probably won’t ever wear them again.

A Week of Clean Eats (and Drinks…or lack of..)

I am now 8 days in to this gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, sugar-free diet. I cringe when I see the word ‘diet,’ which is why I called it a ‘lifestyle’ earlier (even though I doubt I will be this strict on myself forever). A diet, to me, implies that you are restricting yourself. Which, in a sense, is what I’m doing. But, while there may be certain restrictions, I don’t feel deprived in any way.

primeI’d be lying if I told you I had no desire to come home this evening and pour myself a big glass of wine (yes, even on Pajama Day things can get pretty hectic at work). But, there’s also a large part of me that can really FEEL the difference when I cut alcohol out of my diet for a week. I love feeling a little lighter and a little more joyful in the mornings.

I’d also be lying to you if I said that, miraculously, my stress munchies have disappeared! But what I can say is that, the success I’ve had this first week has been so quick, so powerful, and so exciting for me that no leftover Teacher Appreciation crap is worth jeopardizing any future success.

I realize I’ve got three more weeks of this, and plenty more to learn, but it has already been one heck of an eye-opening experience. (FYI – did you know there’s sugar in garlic salt?)

It’s also been really interesting to watch myself try to cope with stress and my anxiety when I can’t fall back into a pint of ice cream or a gallon of wine. Very interesting. I’m becoming more conscious of my actions and things are becoming less blurry.

So, who knows where 3 more weeks of this will lead me?

All I know is that I’m taking it one day at a time. And working hard at it. Every. Single. Day.

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you have any food allergies or self-imposed dietary restrictions?
I don’t think I’m allergic to any foods – I’m just doing this 30-day ‘diet’ to reset my body and eliminate/reduce all the toxins I put in my body on a daily basis.
  • Are you a stress “snacker” or a stress “starver?”
I wish I were a stress starver or someone who forgets to eat when they’re ridiculously stressed! I’m the complete opposite!

  1. Well, if you’ve been following me 😉 you know I cannot eat wheat, dairy, gluten, sugar, soy, nuts, eggs & fruit… And then aside from that I do not eat hydrogenated oils and I do not eat PORK – GROSS! LOL! I consider my way of eating a lifestyle, it works for me and I own it! There is plenty of foods out there that I can eat that are DELICIOUS!!!! 🙂 I have been eating like this for about… 12 years at this point! Kind of crazy to think about, but hey, I am feeling pretty good – minus a few days here and there.

And OMG PJ Day!!!! Used to LOVE THAT DAY AT SCHOOL!

  2. Lots of stress lately & working hard not to let it get me crazed with snacks! I am usually pretty good about managing the emotional eating but it is tougher times so a bit harder work!

  3. I avoid eating dairy as much as possible because I feel 100x better when I don’t eat it. Of course, I still have to have some ice cream every once in a while, but on a day to day basis I avoid it. It is tough, but I do feel a lot better by avoiding it! 🙂

  4. I’m definitely a stress eater and have gotten way off path with the stress of the past 8 months. I’m finally getting back on track. I find that it helps if I have my 20% not clean eats planned, especially in the summer. Weddings, birthday parties, etc… That way when I want a random cookie I remember that I’m going to have drinks and cake in a few days and I don’t eat the cookie. I also make sure I eat things that aren’t always available, that brownie at Starbucks will always be there. Those awesome wedding pastries won’t.

    1. That’s a really, reallyyyy good way to look at it. That also promotes mindfulness around food which is something that I’m seeking!
