Throwback Thursday: Four Square
Yesterday, I was hanging out with the 4th graders at lunch, watching them play a bit of Four Square. As the game got a little more competitive, I realized that most of them were holding on to the ball for a full 2 seconds before they bounced it off to another square. Now, I know I’m well into my late-20s here, but I know a thing or two about Four Square.
I grabbed the ball, stood in the middle of the square, made a T with my hands (isn’t that the national symbol for ‘Time Out?!’), and explained to them that they were holding the ball for FAR too long.
At which point, one of my little ones looked at me and said, “WHAT? You know how to play FOUR-SQUARE?”
I’m pretty much the coolest kid on the blacktop now.
Wait until they see my hopscotch skills….
Question of the Day:
- What was your favorite playground game growing up?
Though I knew how to play FourSquare pretty competitively, my favorite game HANDS DOWN was tetherball.

Love this! I used to LOVE play Four-Square back in the day. I’m so glad kids are still playing it.
Four square rocks! I volunteered for five years with the youth group at my church and I jumped in every time there was a game going!
And…… My brain is back in middle school!!!
LOVE IT! I was a fan of tether ball…such a great game…although sometimes it did end in tears (haha) at least I can laugh about it now. Great post, so fun!
