Things I’m Loving Lately #25 [Link-Up]

healthy turkey jerky

Good morning! I skipped over this post last week because Eat Teach Blog was having some technical difficulties. But I’m back, the blog is fixed, and I’m ready to be thankful. This week, there’s a random smattering of things making me smile – from healthy turkey jerky to a weekend in Knoxville, I am one happy gal over here!

As always, play along in the comments and share one thing you’re thankful for. Or, better yet, link up your post below.

Healthy Turkey Jerky from Snack Mates

healthy turkey jerky

I have always been a fan of Turkey Jerky. Slim Jims are my jam. But, I know that some jerkies tend to be processed with a whole bunch of preservatives. So when I found this healthy turkey jerky option on Thrive Market, I ordered a few packs and am now officially addicted. There are 50 calories (or 1 WW Smart Point) in two sticks. It’s a great snack to hold me over when I’m feeling hungry and has that jerky flavor that I love – with none of the other crap in it. Never mind the fact that it says “for KIDS” on it in big, colorful letters. They’re for grown-ups too.

Mardi Gras Gala

This past weekend, the medical school had a Mardi Gras-themed gala in Knoxville. All the students and their spouses rented rooms at the Marriott, got ready together, and danced and bar-hopped until 2AM. I felt like I was in college all over again! (Except for the next morning. When we all questioned whether that final Moscow Mule was worth it). Regardless, we all desperately needed a night in the city and I was so grateful to spend time with the three ladies who keep me sane in this rural town!

After the gala, we had brunch at this restaurant in Market Square. I went there a few weeks ago and ordered a lunch item. This time, I opted for breakfast and I was definitely pleased with my meal! I ordered a Southern Shakshuka – baked eggs over a tomato sauce and goat cheese grits. With a side of avocado. And French fries. There’s something about late night partying that makes me want French fries. (OK. Who am I kidding? I always want French Fries. All day. Every day.)

Game of Thrones

I never ever, ever, ever, EVER in my wildest dreams thought I would be into Game of Thrones. When I heard that it was a fantasy drama filled with violence and very explicit scenes, I said, “Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll stick to my re-runs of Friends.” Well, Ankur somehow convinced me to watch one episode of GoT and, after two or three of them, I was hooked. My only requirements now are that we are not allowed to watch it during dinner and that he has to warn me when blood is about to be shed. Still, the plot is so intriguing and the characters are all so interesting. I’m emotionally invested in each story line. And I can understand why this show has such high ratings!

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you watch Game of Thrones?
  • What is one thing you’re thankful for this week?
