Things I’m Loving Lately #21

Good morning! I’ve gotta get to work a littler earlier than usual today so this post may be shorter than usual. (Our grade level has school-wide duty this week and I’m in charge of greeting the kiddos at the gym when they get off the bus. Which requires me to be there at 7AM!).  Still, I wanted to make sure I popped in for my usual Things I’m Loving Thursday post. It is, after all, my favorite one to write each week!

Be sure to play along in the comments or drop your own Things I’m Loving link in the link-up below! I love reading all the things that are making you smile!

  • Snow Days in Tennessee

I know you’ve all probably had enough of my Snow Day talk and, lucky for you, we aren’t expected to have snow again until the end of the month. So, after this post, I promise to knock it off. At least for a few weeks. But part of the reason I enjoyed the Snow Days so much, aside from seeing the snow itself, is because where we are located along the mountains. Which means some parts are pretty impacted by snow and in other areas (MINE!), it’s heavy for a day or two after it falls and then melts because the sun hits it directly. This meant that I had a “Snow Day,” but that I wasn’t necessarily stuck in my house. I did, in fact, make a trip to Knoxville on Monday because the main highways were clear. So that was pretty fantastic. It’s like I had an extra long winter break!

  • Reply All Podcast

Reply All is a podcast about the Internet. It features stories about how people shape the Internet and, also, how the Internet shapes people. I don’t generally have the attention span to listen to a podcast without rewinding it a couple times or pausing it to process what’s going on. (I’m not the strongest auditory learner). But, with Reply All, I’m 100% engaged and it feels like I’m hanging with some of my closest friends, PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman. They are entertaining hosts and it seems like they have so much fun together. PJ’s laugh is, quite honestly, 50% of the reason I listen to the podcast. They’re EVEN the best with their sponsors. I have heard a MILLION ads about Stamps.com and MailChimp. They somehow make even their ad breaks entertaining. If you haven’t already subscribed to their podcast, I would highly recommend it.

  • Buffer

If you like to have a social media presence without being attached to your computer/phone all day long, I recommend a service like Buffer, which allows you to schedule out posts ahead of time (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). It may seem like I’m posting all over social media mid-day when I should be working with children. It is, however, thanks to Buffer. Check it out!

  • Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hair Spray

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hair Spray
It may not always look like it because I think I’ve mastered the poof (my favorite and only hairstyle), but I’ve got pretty thin hair. I pump a few sprays of BB Thickening Hair Spray into my hair after I shower – while it’s still wet – and it gives it so much more volume. It also doesn’t have that sticky residue feeling that other products tend to have when adding volume or curls. I absolutely love it. So much so that I ordered myself two more bottles on Amazon(<—affiliate link).

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you listen to podcasts? What’s your favorite one right now?

  • Do you put any product in your hair?
  • What is one thing you’re loving this week?

  6. The snow has come and gone and I’m glad. I will have to look up Reply all podcast I hadn’t heard of them before. I am still using my L’Oreal EverCurl Cream on my hair from a Influenster Voxbox. I’m loving a quiet house and being back in my routine after 3 snowdays and bored kids.

Yay for being out of Snowpocalypse, we are actually getting up to high 60’s today, and almost 70 tomorrow in my neck of Georgia after our snow/ice mess last weekend!

    🙂

  9. We listen to podcasts a lot when we are on road trips. We love ‘Stuff You Missed in History Class’ and “Stuff You Should Know”. My son and I really got into one called “Lore” on a road trip we recently took. And our latest love is Mike Rowe’s “The Way I Heard It”. (This last one is only about 6 minutes long, so perfect for a short attention span!)

  10. I knew Harrogate was close to Knoxville, but I guess somehow I didn’t realize HOW close. I saw that you had been here and was strangely surprised, lol. I think you might have sold me on Buffer – I’ve always had Hootsuite, and I’ve used it sporadically, but I think Buffer is more my style.

  11. I just started using Buffer and CoSchedule. I love both because, like you said, I don’t want to be glued to my computer all day long! They also help me to post at the best possible times, which are usually the times I want to turn my computer off!

  12. I don’t usually listen to podcasts because I’m also not a great auditory learner… I tend to space out. This sounds interesting though! I’m always looking for new materials and information to help me be a better blogger. I’m going to have to check out that bumble and bumble spray, too!

  13. Podcasts are great for listening during my work commute and during housework tasks. Thanks for suggesting one! Some of my faves are Overdue, Stuff You Should Know, Book Riot, The Creative Penn.

  14. It’s been a long time I didn’t listen to podcast. Reply All sound like a cool podcast to listen to. I avoid the hair thickening product because I have thick stubborn hair. Love your post!

  15. I have to admit, I have never heard of a thickening spray before. However, after reading your post, I feel like I should give it a try. Maybe it would work on my thinning hair.

  16. I love buffer!!!! It does however get friends and family members mad at me sometimes though. Thinking I’m ignoring them yet on social media, when in reality I really am busy and it was buffer lol

  17. Hope you get some more snow days this Winter! I’d take any day off that anyone wanted to give me haha! I am loving mashed potatoes this week 😀 In fact, it’s my recipe for tomorrow’s post! I can’t get enough!

  18. I love snow days too, but in Texas, we get more of a snow dusting than a true layer of snow. The bbthickening spray is definitely something I’m going to have to try! Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

  19. Snow days sure can be fun. We had some snow days right after winter break too making it extra long. I really was yearning for my kids to be on a solid schedule again. But I’m sure it was great for teachers to have that extra time off.

  20. busy day at work for you! i don’t use buffer but i hear it’s pretty good, i’m looking for something more from mine, maybe i’ll check it out! i live in new mexico and this year it’s been particularly warm and so we haven’t had many snow days!

  22. Hey, I’m totally going to check out that podcast. I should probably listen to more podcasts, they seem interesting enough. 24. Tennessee is a great state and adding the snow I guess makes it even better at least from my perspective since I live in FL. Buffer is a wonderful application I enjoy using it too. =)

  25. To answer your questions, I do not listen to any podcasts. I wish I had time to, though. I only use wash and condition my hair. I also use a hair mask once a week. And the one thing I am loving this week? It is finding hearty soup recipes my family would totally love!

  26. I don’t currently listen to any podcasts. There are a few that I keep meaning to start listening to that friends have recommended, but I never seem to get around to it. I don’t put any product in my hair except on very rare occasions when I am actually getting dressed up and made up for a special occasion. Working at home means I rarely do much with my hair!

However, it’s hard for me to pick up the knowledge when I just listen to them passively. These days, I just take out 1 hour of my time during the weekends to listen to them. My favorite was Tim Ferriss’ podcast as well as The James Altucher Show.

  33. Buffer is one of my favorite sites to. I love these aggregated social media platforms where you could schedule your posts.

  34. The podcast sounds awesome! I love learning about how important and interesting the internet can be. It’s fascinating how much it has changed life across the world.
