Things I’m Loving Lately #20

Good morning! I think my internal clock has finally recognized that I’m back in Tennessee. Phew. Those first few mornings were rough. Being on California time when you have to be at work at 7:30AM in Tennessee is challenging. But God bless the person who discovered the coffee plant. And the person who invented the Keurig. And, while we’re at it, the people producing the soy creamer I’m obsessed with.

It’s pretty evident that coffee tops the charts most weeks when it comes to things I’m loving. But, this week, there are a few other things making me smile. Below is a round-up of all those things that are making me oh-so happy! As always, play along in the comments (or link up your own “Thankful/Things I’m Loving” posts) and share one thing you’re loving this week.

  • The Prospect of a Snow Day!

My co-workers have me convinced that we will have a Snow Day tomorrow. Apparently, where we live, they’ll shut down the schools – even if there are only 2 or 3 inches of snow on the road. The windy roads and the unpaved neighborhoods make it difficult for people to drive their cars and it’s not really safe for the school buses to be running. I am equal parts THRILLED and NERVOUS-AS-HECK about the Snow Day! But I am extremely grateful that we may not have to leave the apartment. My co-workers also gave me some advice to load up on eggs, milk, and bread. Those are the first things to sell out at the grocery store. I also got a few other things. And chocolate. For good measure.

  • 10% Happier

Jen got me this book for Christmas and I feel like it’s perfectly aligned to my vision for 2017. I want this year to be the year of simplicity. The year where I am more mindful and intentional in my thoughts and actions. I heard Dan Harris when he was interviewed on Gretchen Rubin’s podcast and I was intrigued by the things he was saying. So, I’m excited to read this book. I’m a few chapters in and I’m loving it.

  • Simple Weeknight Meals

Speaking of “simplicity,” dinner has been a breeze lately. I’ve been buying pre-made chicken, frozen veggies, and other items that are easy to dump in a pan. I forgot how easy it was to throw things together when you’re not having to chop up all the ingredients and do all the prep work!

  • Friendship Bracelets

It was really fun to see the kiddos after Winter Break. They were so eager to tell me all their stories about the sleepovers they had and the shopping excursions they went on. Two of the girls showed off their “Best Friend” bracelets and it brought me back to my childhood. Back when we would play arcade games and win BFF necklaces and contemplate which one of our many friends we would give the other half to. And, if you were real cool, you had multiple chains hanging from your neck for all the many BFFs you had.

Questions of the Day:

  • Does it snow where you live? Has it started?

  • What are you currently reading?

  • What’s one thing you’re loving this week?

  1. We don’t have snow, but we have cold! It makes taking the pup out… fun(?). Basically, I am double pants and triple tops layering. I’ve been having fun with dinners as well–I made slow cooker chicken pepper marinara soup and then french onion soup!

  2. Sadly, it doesn’t snow in Dubai. And I have never seen snowfall in my life…I guess this will go in my bucket list. I am reading Ariana Huffington’s “Thrive” and I am still enjoying first week of 2017. I loved the Friendship bracelet…I have to get one of these. Great post!

  3. It’s snowing today! I had a cold and snowy run here in Shelbyville, Indiana. Just a couple inches being predicted where I am. Right now I’m reading Present Over Perfect. This week I’m loving that I’m running a bit more and that my knee is feeling better and adjusting to more running.

  6. OH my goodness I think those friendship bracelets and necklaces caused more pain for me than good. If you gave the other half to your best friend, the person who thought they were your best friend cried about it nonstop leaving you a 10 year old the feels like shit. Oh the dramas of a tween girl. I stuck more to mood necklaces. 😉 haha 😉

In northern Alabama it snows a couple of times a year, but not often. I”m excited to see if it does snow soon before we move in February to Florida. I hope it doesn’t snow while we are trying to move :-O

I’m not!!! :X I need to get to it though, I miss reading.

This week I’m loving building my blog, and enjoy my kiddos. 🙂

  7. I prefer Snow Days to just Cold Days….seems when it snows, the temperatures seem to moderate somewhat. The cold doesn’t feel as cold when there is snow on the ground. Just my opinion. Enjoy your Snow Day.

  8. I love the idea of sharing things you are currently in love with right now! 🙂 It snows here, but it all melted and now it just spits snow at us now and again. Currently I am reading Vol. 1 of The Walking Dead comics. Not exactly a book, but I have wanted to read them forever. This week I am loving aloe infused socks, playing app games with my youngest, teaching my oldest to build 3d figures and getting to sleep in yesterday! 🙂

  9. When I was teaching I LIVED for those snow days! Except one year we had so many and our district didn’t prepare properly so we ended up having school until June 9th! The schools are out today but unfortunately, stay-at-home moms don’t get the day off! haha

    1. Oh gosh! That sounds rough. Haha. Luckily, our county already built in 13 extra school days in the case of snow days! Apparently they happen a lot around here!

  10. That book is incredible and really helped me immensely. I felt so bad reading about his experience with an on-air panic attack, especially as someone who has dealt with anxiety in recent years.

  19. A few weeks ago we had lots of snow here in Toronto but it’s all melted now. A snow day up here is pretty rare since we’re used to the weather and they basically never shut down the subways and streetcars. But I remember how much I used to look forward to the chance of one when I was a kid! Hope you stay safe and warm if there’s a Tennessee blizzard!

  24. Wish we had Snow Days here in Ca.
    hahaha.
On second thought I am so happy living in California with no sign of snow where we are.
It does snow in the mountains though.

Your dinner picture looked greattt. Yes life is much easier with pre-cut fruits and veggies.
My advise —- When using frozen veggies or precut veggies no matter how much they say prewashed ready to eat, please please wash them. This way all the excessive salt that they might have put and other preservatives can get washed away, making it much more healthy.

    Bye bye. Good Night.

  25. It definitely snows here but we don’t get snow days from school or work… Of course we are used to it. Right now we have about 3 feet of snow outside. And yesterday it was around -30 celsius. Brrr.

  26. I live in California but used to live in Tennessee and had school canceled even when snow didn’t stick. My sister is a teacher in Tennessee and is praying for snow days.

  33. Snow days are for sure my favorite lately. Although, friendship whatevers (bracelets, necklaces, pieces in general) are always awesome!

  34. I live in sunny Phoenix, AZ, so no snow here. However, we went to Prescott, AZ over the New Year’s weekend and the snow was beautiful on the mountains.

Currently reading a lot of stuff to grow my blog audience and a lot of tech stuff for my day job.

The one thing I’m truly loving this week is my day job. I’ve never had a job that was this fun. I work for GoDaddy and I ride a slide to the cafeteria every day and have nerf gun wars while taking calls. It’s a lot of fun.

Definitely going to check out that book 10% happier, too. Thanks for the lead!

  35. I live in Minnesota. Not only does it snow, but all last week with the windchill it “felt like” 25 or colder all day every day. Gross. I am reading the Magnolia Story. Who doesn’t love Chip and Joanna ? This week I am loving being back in routine. The kids all went back to school, and I am able to try to figure out a new schedule for myself with my blog, ebay store, and two businesses I run. Thanks for the look into your week !

  36. We are in the 40s it was in the 20s at the start of the weekend. I was looking for a good book and considered the one you’re reading but then I asked someone about books and she recommended The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks and my mind was blown. I started it yesterday and am almost done with it . I’ll probably start reading it over again. I still might read 10% happier. But so far this book is amazing and I’ve had so many realizations.

  37. I wish we had a snow day tomorrow but it’s just cold! I a,m reading Deepak Choprah’s “What are you hungry for” as I tend to emotionally eat and it gets worse in winter!

  38. I LOVED having a snow day! It gave me time to catch up and relax! (Except now I’m ready for it to go away…) That friendship bracelet is adorable xx thecarlycollective.com
