Fun Facts Friday: Morning Sunsets and Super Mario Similes

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Anyone else feel like 4-day workweeks feel longer than regular ol’ workweeks? Still, I’m grateful we’ve reached Friday and that I have the next few days to sleep and get my life in order. But before I sign off and disconnect for the weekend, I wanted to pop in with the usual Fun Facts Friday post.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

  • Remember that my kiddos are practicing similes in Reading/Language Arts this week?

Super Mario SimilesWell, apparently, I’m “as amazing as passing a really challenging Super Mario level.” That is the highest compliment I’ve received all year. I’ll take it.

  • This was the view on my commute yesterday.

Absolutely breathtaking. But, apparently, the color of the skies indicate that a storm’s a-brewin’. “Red sun at night, sailors’ delight. Red sun at morning, sailors take warning.”

  • I basically bought the entire Dollar Store.

Previously, my kids would earn school-wide “Good Tickets” and we’d have a raffle on Friday, where the lucky person whose ticket was drawn would receive a prize. Well, I promised them that after Winter Break, instead of a raffle, we could set it up as a store. So they can use the “Good Tickets” to purchase prizes instead of crossing their fingers and hoping their name gets drawn. Turns out that my kids are better at budgeting their tickets than I am at budgeting my money. They’ve been saving their tickets since December so I had to run out and get more prizes. Smart kids.

  • Nicole and I walked laps around the basketball arena last night.

Apparently this is a thing that people do. Because it gets so cold during the winter, the arena is open to the public so they can walk laps around the basketball court to get their workout in. Which worked out quite nicely for us because we both had indulged in some not-so-healthy food yesterday. Stress eating is real, people.

Questions of the Day:

  • Let’s practice similes. Fill in the blanks. Divya is as ________ as a _____________.

  • How long is your commute to work?

  • What are you doing this weekend?

  1. I walk about 10 minutes to the train station, take a 25 minute train ride, and then walk about 12-15 minutes to my building. I guess that’s about 45 minutes total. It’s rough in the winter to do all of the waiting and walking in the ice and snow though 🙁 That sunset is beautiful!!
I hope you have a lovely weekend!

  2. Looks like a great week! I love hearing the positives about others’ weeks when so often many of us focus on the tough stuff. Thank you for sharing! (Love the beautiful sunset!!)

  3. What a great week! I know those Dollar Store trips. Educators keep them in business! This week, I was happy about finally booking our hotel for Mexico. 🙂 This weekend I have several fun events planned (media brunch, fun night with friends, cooking)

  4. What a beautiful sunrise–I’ve never heard that saying before!

Also being compared to reaching a higher level in Mario Brothers is totes a compliment <3 🙂

Have a great weekend, Divya! 🙂

  7. Oh the dollar store how little kids love that place. Hey atleast yours didn’t buy all candy which is what mine would do. It’s a rainy weekend here in California so I’ll just be hanging out at home!

  8. What a great compliment–love it! That must’ve made your heart smile. Let’s see…this weekend we are apparently digging out from Snowmeggedon. I’m so happy to have some down time!

  9. Okay FIRST I’m loving the new blog makeover. Very cool. And next – “Red sun at night, sailors’ delight. Red sun at morning, sailors take warning.” – is something I must remember. BTW did it ever storm? Next, Divya is as loyal to her teach profession, as a parent to his/her child. Have a great weekend!

  10. I used to have a treat basket filled with toys, books and snacks when I homeschooled my children. When they tried their best during the week, they were able to pick something on Fridays.

  11. Walking around a basketball area for a workout sounds like so much fun and is so different! So lucky that you get to do that I don’t think they do that here.

  12. That Super Mario is awesome! I agree with you that short work weeks always feel even longer. It is as if all of the bad things pile up even more. My commute to work is only about 20 minutes so not too bad. This weekend I am catching up on blogging while watching over my little furry son Barkley. He had his shots today and is a little under the weather now.
    Have a great weekend!

  13. That’s such a great reward system you have with your class, I love it! I teach 4 year olds right now so they’re maybe a little too small for that but I’m definitely going to use this idea with older classes. Thanks!

  14. Short weeks can feel so much longer. Especially if you have plans that you’re looking forward to. You count every minute and it just drags on. But happy time always arrives eventually.

  15. I love using the dollar store for incentives for my kiddos, I just have to be careful, I can get a little carried away at that place.

  16. I am actually a lot more sedentary than I’ve beem in years! My panta are getting tight, I don’t like it. Something has to change. Lovely sunrise!

My commute to work is about 15 minutes and this weekend i am going to a baby shower (today) and working tomorrow night–boo. I hope you have a great weekend!

  18. I love it when students give teachers such nice compliments! They must love you!!
The good old rewards systems! People don’t realize how much money teachers actually spend!! Wishing you a great year with your class!
I used to have a half hour commute to my school but now I’m home with my kids!

  19. So fun!
I work from home so thankfully no commute for myself. My husband’s is about 40 minutes there and another 40 back… not too bad really.

  20. Our weather is gorgeous today! We ate outside, took a golf cart ride, and are preparing for a holiday party! We are to bring a snack over to our friends house for his party. 🙂

  21. This read sounds like you find the beauty in everything you doing in your life. It is so positive personal characteristic. Your posts are worm like the red sun on your photo. I hope it was not a storm. Your child art is fantastic 🙂

  22. Love all the photos of everyday life. Your dollar store purchases remind me of mine … I’ve always got so much when I checkout because I’m like, hey, it’s a buck. Yeah, I shouldn’t buy so much.

  23. My commute is short – only about 30 mins. It’s kind of my quite mind time. This weekend for us – like every weekend – is all about swim meets, running and triathlon training with a few fun family outings thrown in

  24. I love fun posts like this! My commute is a very short one since I work from home. I just walk from my bedroom to the kitchen, grab my coffee, and walk into the office/homeschool room. No big plans for the weekend…it’s a stormy wet one.

  25. I work from home so my commute is extremely short. Sometimes I miss having a place to go, so occasionally I will get up and head out to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. This weekend I spend Saturday watching the Women’s March on Washington with my mom. We were going to the march in our local area but she wasn’t feeling well enough. It was nice to be able to share it with her.

  26. I work from home, so commuting is out of the question. I do take short walks around the neighborhood, usually in the late afternoons. My weekend will probably be spent updating my blogs, unless I have to babysit my grandchildren (again.)

  27. I live in England so obviously we don’t have dollar stores haha but every time I end up going to our pound shops I spend so much. Me and my mum end up by stuff we don’t really need because “well it’s only a pound”

  28. Oh my gosh the dollar store problem is so real! I love the idea of walking laps in the arena… brilliant! Entertaining and gets you moving. Although we don’t have the cold excuse here in atlanta… lol

  29. I miss the dollar tree so much! There isn’t anything like that here in Norway. It is sad. That is a beautiful morning sunrise… Love the color… I work from home so I don’t really have a commute.

  30. Looks like you had a great work week. I wish I had that view on my commute. It is so beautiful and looks relaxing too. My commute is 1 hour each way. So having that type of view would help.

  31. Sounds like you had a wonderful week. That sunrise looks absolutely stunning which always have a special meaning when you start your morning and that drawing of Mario by your kid is quiet brilliant too.

  32. I love the Mario simile. That is really sweet! My son’s class has a treasure box they can pick from each week if they have stayed on “green” on the behavior chart. He’s in kindergarten so it’s good motivation to behave!

  33. I’m just like you dear. I end up buying so many things at the dollar store. I think sometimes I can spend $100. I think it’s because it’s only one dollar so we grab lots. I probably should not shop there. Ha ha

  34. What an amazing week you have! I personally love shopping at our local dollar store too. So many great finds for such a budget friendly price. My hubby takes me there quite too often than he wishes. So I can totally relate on pretty much purchasing everything on the store. 😉

  35. Looks like you’re having a lot of fun with the kids. That sunset is lovely although it’s a warning about the bad weather. I think it’s nice that you’re giving out prizes!

  36. The sunset looks so beautiful! Lately we’ve been having really breath taking sunsets! Last week the whole office went out to take pictures of the sunset! Just so lovely!
In terms of commute! I don’t have much of one as I only live 10 minutes from my job which is so nice! Before then I used to live an hour away and that was so tiring so I feel really lucky to be close tinny place of work.
