January 2017 Goals

We are back in Harrogate and, oh boy, it’s hitting me harder than ever. I think traveling to California was a big fat tease and it made me realize just how much I’m missing while we live out the next two years out here.
Hopefully that sinking feeling disappears once we fall back into routine. But, let’s just say I’m not entirely ready to put my smiling face on as I walk into work this morning.
Anyway, I’ve been so busy trying to soak up all the minutes and seconds with my family that I haven’t really had a chance to sit down and write out my actual resolutions. I’ve talked a bit about how I want this year to be the year of simplicity. But I think the special education teacher in me needs some SMART goals to keep her accountable. The realist in me also knows that, if I make goals for a year out, I’m less likely to get them accomplished without objectives built in along the way. For this reason, I’ll be making monthly goals this year. In hopes that the 4-week check-in point will keep the momentum going all year long.

January Goals:

  • By 1/31/16, I will read two books.
Downloaded them on my Kindle already. My goal is to have my evenings dedicated to reading instead of screen time.
  • By 1/31/16, I will lose 5 pounds.
I am going to be using my Weight Watchers app to keep track of my points and, this semester, I’m paying for a membership to the gym on Ankur’s campus. Which is right across the street from us. No excuses.
  • By 1/31/16, I will complete a blogging course.
Already purchased it. Just need to calendar out a few days to sit down and do it.

That’s it.

Three goals. And I’ll be back on the 31st to report on them and make new monthly goals for February.

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you make NY Resolutions or monthly/annual goals?
  • What are some of your goals for this month/year?

  1. Happy New Year!
I do set goals for myself – on a monthly basis to not make it too overwhelming.
So far January was off to a bit of a rough start, but I guess it can only get better!
    Good luck for your goals!

  2. I was also thinking about having monthly goals instead. It is easy to keep oneself in check. with a year one always have this false sense of ample time to achieve something

  3. I usually do not make new year’s resolution but 2 years ago I did to give up soda. I am not on my 3rd year without having any.

  4. Wow, we are really in sync lately! Go you — these are incredible goals to have! I find that ever since I’ve started keeping track of monthly goals, that I’m doing a much better job of actually achieving them. I think I also want to start making less goals per month (maybe 2 or 3 like you have here) so that I can really focus on accomplishing them. Best of luck to you, my sweet, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! XOXO

  5. Having the books loadd on your kindle and your course already ordered is great. Now to find the time and dedication! I make monthly goals and definitely some bigger ones for the year. This year I included monthly reading and volunteering.

  6. Such awesome goals. Let me know if you need book recs! Also I love the one about a blogging course. Good for you!

  7. I feel ya, girl! I had to go back to work today too after 10 days off 🙁 Sad face to the max!
Great goals! What blogging course did you purchase? I’m looking for any good recommendations because I’d love to take one too!

  8. I don’t make new years resolutions. However, I set goals. Just like you, I prefer a monthly goal. It is easier to manage and you get the results you want. Wishing you all the best this New Year and I know you’re going to be successful in reaching those goals.

  9. Monthly goals are good – although I am always reading and downloading books on my kindle! I really have got to try and incorporate some pilates/yoga in my schedule somewhere – I am stepping my 10,000 steps & keeping busy – but I really need to properly tone & unwind 😊

  10. My resolution for NY is not to take second helping of food. I forgot my resolution during dinner time yesterday. I know there are times, I am going to fall but will try to get up again and restart.

  11. Happy New Year to All.

Following your goals on a monthly way. I like that.
I am going to try and copy you on those.

Don’t be sad……. Once you are back on your daily routine and once you have started keeping track of your goals….. days of your lives will float by smoothly.

    God Bless!

  12. Seriously, your 3 goals for this month are so similar to mine! I want to read 3 books this month, lose 5 pounds, and finish two blogging courses I purchased a couple months ago (one is Pinterest specific and the other Instagram). Good luck on acheiving your goals this month!

  13. It’s usually tough to go back to the daily grind after having so much fun during your vacation. I’m sure you’re going to adjust just fine. I think it’s awesome that you’re setting realistic goals!

    1. Let me know if you’re looking for any specific ones! I’m currently taking a beginner’s course to SEO and it’s been REALLY helpful!

  17. I haven’t made resolutions in years. But, goals i have in general for the month are to find some more paid campaigns and such, for my blog.

  18. I also have a book goal, albeit just one since I’m planning to break down a few more pounds. Here’s to all of us and our 2017 goals, cheers!

  19. Great goals. It’s good that you kept them to three. Anything beyond that makes things go awry. I don’t do New Years resolutions. I use my Passion Planner and I plan 2-3 monthly goals, and the analyze the steps to reaching my goals weekly. About 20-30 minutes on Sunday evening. This system works great for me.

  20. Happy New Year!
These goals seem really achievable. I think you are going to love the way you feel once you finish those books. What course are you taking?

    1. I’m taking a few actually! Right now, I’m doing an SEO Tutorial for beginners. It’s funny because I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and everything I’m learning is brand new information to me! I guess you don’t know what you don’t know! Let me know if you’re interested and I can give you more information 🙂

  21. Similarly, my goal is to shed off all the weight that I gained from the holidays. If I could only exchange my fats for money, I would be able to achieve my second goal as well – save, and save a lot haha!

  22. Love your January goals! Reading is essential, as for the blogging course is it online course? If yes could you tell me a website? I’m actually taking the SEO online course on Coursera and planning to complete it by February
