Half Marathon Training Update

In the spirit of Marathon Mondays (Meatless Mondays went out the window since a chicken was sacrificed for my dinner), I thought I would post updates on the half marathon training!

Recent updates:

1) I am terrible at sticking to schedules.

2) We are now being asked to taper. I feel like I don’t deserve to participate in the taper-ing process. But I’m taper-ing. (I clearly just REALLY like that word). We did 4 miles on Saturday at the Los Gatos Creek trail. 4 miles seems like a short little run now. Which is so weird coming from me.

3) I haven’t been so great about running 3-4 times a week. I was, however, committed to the LONG runs. I did 10 in San Francisco and 12 in Monterey. I don’t know if doing the long runs, but not the short ones, is a stupid idea or a smart one. But I did it. So what’s done is done.

3) I absolutely could not do this without a team. Which sounds so silly because I can’t even commit to our team 100%. But, they just accept me each time I come back without giving me shit for missing track practice earlier in the week.

4) I’ve reached my fundraising goal. $2500. We did it. Thank you all for your support. Even though I’ve reached my goal, you can still support until Race Day. Click here to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Together, we will eliminate blood cancer!

Question of the Day:

  • Are you strict about following a training schedule or do you use it more as guidance?

  1. Keeping a regular schedule is tough, but keeping a long-distance running schedule is brutal! It is so easy for something to come along and cut into the hours needed.

I think it’s wonderful that you are running for a cause. I wish you all the best!

  2. Yay for taper! Okay, I have a love/hate relationship with tapering. But, you sound like you’ve gotten in some good runs despite bumps along the way, so you should do great!

I love running for a charity, it really makes you feel so good. It’s nice to accomplish your goals while helping others.
