Fun Facts Friday: DC Edition

Good morning from Washington DC!!!

I was such a SNEAKY pants and surprised Sister for her birthday by showing up on her doorstep! She had just gotten back from New York with Megan and had no idea that she’d be seeing me a few hours later. Gosh, I love surprises. And I always feel like I deserve a medal when I can follow through with one. (I have a tendency to want to tell everyone everything.) Thanks family (especially Bhav and Aishu!) who stalled Sissy – and made sure she didn’t fall asleep – while I made my way over here from the airport.

Anyway, I’m going to unplug for the next few days to spend time with Sissy. But I’ll probably post a few pictures/videos of the birthday girl on Snapchat (@eatteachblog) if you want to see what we’re up to.

Before I sign off though, let’s do the usual Fun Facts Friday bit. As always, comment with a fun fact about you! I always love reading them.

__

1) Before I drove to the airport yesterday, I left Ankur a few post-it notes around the apartment. He has an exam on Monday and I just wanted him to know that I was supporting him – even though I’d be out of town this weekend!

I loved getting text messages from him every couple of minutes telling me he found another post-it note. It was so fun for me to know he found them so I bet it was really fun for him to read them! I was inspired by my Mama who used to do this exact thing at my old apartment when she came to visit.

2) Speaking of post-its, my students LOVE them.

They think it’s the absolute FUNNIEST thing to play “yo-yo” with my stack of post-its. And then they’ll ask me – multiple times – how I made them stuck to each other like that. They think I’m magical. They think post-its are magic. I think they are magic. When did we become boring adults that stopped thinking things like this are cool?

3) I took the day off of work yesterday so I spent a few hours running errands and cooking.

I can’t help but want to document my time in the kitchen via Snapchat. I think it’s because I need validation or proof that I made such delicious things. Honestly, though, I think I’ve gotten better at experimenting in the kitchen since we are eating at home so often nowadays. (And, also, our savings account is a whole lot happier as a result).

4) Katy brought her dog, Jax, along with her when we worked out together on Wednesday night.

Jax makes me want to be a dog-owner. He makes me feel like it’s OK to have to pick up dog poop every once in a while. He’s so cute and cuddly and I just want to snuggle him all the time.

5) Bhabhi sent me a screenshot of this and I’ve decided that I absolutely need this hanging in our kitchen.

I found it on Etsy but it’s between $30-$45 so i think I’m going to attempt to make it for myself. Lord knows there’s plenty of places I can find wood around here.

6) I am in a city for the next couple of days. Do you know what that means?

iced coffee post turkey

ICED COFFEE. LOTS of it. Sister lives right next to this placed called Love n’ Faith that has great coffee drinks. I blogged about it two years ago because I went there after we got back from Turkey. Back then, I was going through iced coffee withdrawals because Turkey doesn’t do iced coffee. Now I’m going through iced coffee withdrawals because Harrogate doesn’t do iced coffee. What this tells me is that I should probably just learn how to make iced coffee. (Or give up on coffee altogether. But that’s just the crazy-me talking. The me-before-coffee doesn’t make sound decisions).

So I should probably take care of that before I make any more unwise comments.

Hope you have a fantastic Friday!

  1. I love this blog post; it’s so refreshing to see something “new” out there! For me, I’ve finally made it to the gym 4+ times a week for the second week in a row…. for the first time in 4 years between regnancies and nursing.

  2. Aww I hope she was so surprised to see you. Happy Birthday to your sister.

We have a German Shepard she is 6yrs old and her name is Negra ( Blackie)

As for the weekend I will be in bed resting lol honestly I’m so tired of resting but I K ow it’s what’s best.

Have a great time in DC

  3. Welcome to DC. You’re right in my backyard- Great job surprising your sister. My sister and I (along with our brother) are very close. I love having that relationship. Have a great weekend!

  4. I love the idea of leaving little post-it notes around the house, that’s so cute! And that board with the mugs and wine glasses totally represents my life!

  5. I love surprising people like that! I’ve done it to my mom (best. reaction. ever) and one of my best friends (other best. reaction. ever. An actual double take). It is the best! And YES to that board that holds the mugs and wine glasses. But it also needs to have a beer bottle opener 😀

  6. I love Post-It note pads too. I get them in three different colors, one for each member of the household. This would make it easier for them to know who needs to be reminded of what. My siblings and I live fairly close to each other, so we see each other almost everyday. That was so sweet of you to drop in on your sister’s birthday! Hope you have fun in DC!

  7. I have a very verbal cat who demands I do what she wants when she wants. Not in bed by 8;00 pm–I find myself staring at a cat instead of the computer screen–or she is attempting to close the book I am trying to read in bed–LIGHTS OUT. IF I don’t wake up when she deems it proper and/or she is out of treats or needs her breakfast–LIGHTS ON–she has figured out how to turn on my desk lamp!! But i love her to pieces!!

  8. Ok I’ve got to get myself one of those board you have on the picture for number 5 – but with only one cup and one wine glass (otherwise they both will be used by me 🙂 ) Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. I just loved your post <3 well done on pulling off the surprise for your sister!!
The Am ? PM board is too good !

  10. I love that coffee cup/wine glass rack. That is SUPER cute! You are so sweet for surprising your sister for her bday and that you left sweet notes around the house!
