Fun Facts Friday: 12/16/16
We MADE IT!
It’s Friday and, at 11:15 today, I will walk out of work and not return for two weeks! I’m SO EXCITED.

I don’t think many kiddos will be attending school today. Apparently it’s common for them to skip the final day before Winter Break because it’s a half day and we don’t do too much. (And the teachers make it very clear that they don’t have to show up. We aren’t actually taking attendance today).
Anyway, I’m looking forward to a weekend of properly celebrating with Ankur. (He got done with all his exams on Monday and has patiently been waiting until I get done with work so we can do something fun!). But, before I sign off for the weekend, here is your usual Fun Facts Friday post!
I’ll be back on Monday – blogging FROM CALIFORNIA! – to report on weekend adventures! Have a good one!
__
1) Temperatures have fallen during the middle of the day.

Yes, we are now in the “teens.” I don’t know how people do this. I feel like my face and fingers are going to fall off. And, in California, when there’s sun in the sky, it’s usually warm. So, the whole sunny and freezing thing is a new concept to me. (I am still the constant source of entertainment at work. The girl from California who is learning how to adjust in the cold. Yesterday, all my co-workers had a good laugh when I brought my lotion in from the car and was confused that it had frozen).
2) I just discovered coriander and cilantro come from the same plant.

I despise both things. (Which makes me a terrible Indian because those are pretty much staples in an Indian household). But, now it makes sense. They’re the same plant. And they’re both horrible.
3) Tomorrow, the cousins crew are doing their Secret Santa exchange!

We will all gather together on Google Chat and open up gifts – oldest to youngest – as we always do. I hope our Harrogate wifi connection can handle this level of virtual excitement.
4) I watched Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time this week.

I liked it. It was good. But I’d prefer watching Kiera Knightley in Love Actually. Obviously.
Questions of the Day:
- What’s the weather like where you live?
- Do you do Secret Santa with your family or do you buy each person a gift?
- Do you like cilantro?
- What are you doing this weekend?

It’s supposed to be zero this am! New York!
For my generation we use elfster, get a name and buy $75 of gifts!
Enjoy your break my kids have a week left of school
It’s freezing in my state. The secret Santa exchange sounds like a lot of fun. This weekend my son has basketball all weekend.
I just learned about Cilantro and Coriander a few years ago. Also, I have been using Cilantro to get the heavy metals out of my body…… but if you take a lot cilantro you have to take Chlorella.
I just learned coriander and cilantro come from the same plant too!! How crazy? Also, yay for time off of work!!! Enjoy!!

I love cilantro. I’m from Houston so the cold of the Tennessee Valley has taken time for me to adjust to. At 11 o’ clock today I go to my husband’s company’s Christmas party. Where men can give me the poor pitiful wife eyes as they tell me “how cute” my blog idea is, and then always…always make the comment, “Must be nice to just sit around at home all day and play on your computer.” :-/ And then a repeat Saturday night at a big formal party…
Can’t wait for Monday! Never thought I’d say that one.
THAT is a marvelous vacation you have lined up–enjoy your winter break! And how cute you do a Santa exchange with your cousins… Do you all live far apart??
I can’t take this weather either… It’s good for reading and snuggling with the pup and hot beverages and epic TV/movie watching however 🙂 I’ve also never seen Pirates of the Caribbean! Have a great weekend, and hope the next few hours pass quickly for you! XOXO
I am off too!! Winter break is the best!!! Temps are dropping here too!
I seriously did not know that about coriander and cilantro. You learn something new every day! 🙂
It’s damn cold here – so jelly you’re in Cali! We’re visiting my inlaws tomorrow three hours north of Toronto and it’s -28 CELSIUS up there!!!!
Have a great weekend and have fun exploring California! 🙂
Q: What’s the weather like where you live?
A: Sunny and rainy. Year end can get especially rainy (I live in Asia)
Q: Do you like cilantro?
A: I LOVE it!!!
Fun fact for you — Keira Knightley laughed at the boobs they gave her on the official movie poster for Pirates since she is perfectly fine being flat-chest! 😂
I hope you enjoy your break. I know you’ve been so busy so you deserve it! Happyw eekend! and break!
Winter is making sure we haven’t forgotten he exists after last year’s milder one. Things are COLD and SUPER SNOWY already! We’re bracing ourselves for another potential 12 inches this weekend!
Aren’t breaks wonderful?? Have a relaxing one!!!! xoxo
My son is in high school and is going to school all day. But my daughter was out early since I volunteered at her Christmas party and parents could take kids home.
It’s going to get chilly here on Sunday. I’m in Texas so when it drops to 38, everyone freaks.
I actually love cilantro. I especially love growing it myself in my small garden in the backyard .
It is cold here but the weekend is supposed to warm up! I don’t like Cilantro. No secret Santa here but I think it’s neat that you all do it live. The kids are still in school until next week so no celebration from the teachers here just yet.
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourite films 😊
The weather outside where I live is mild (50 degrees F) damp & foggy. I live in the extreme south east of England and it is rarely frosty and we haven’t had snow since 2010! Our snow, if we get any, tends to be at the end of January/February – coldest temperatures are then too.
It’s freezing here in NY and we are getting 6 inches of snow tomorrow! Looking forward to watching some movies!
I am in Texas so the weather has been all over the place. Rainy and warm. My family and I usually exchange gifts! But secret santa sounds cool. (: I do like cilantro. I like most herbs. lol

I can’t stand the cold and would never have known the deal about the hand moisturiser either! It’s sunny and warm over here but we are going somewhere cold for Christmas (not sure I’m going to be able to handle it!!). We usually do individual gifts AND a secret santa, but we’re just doing secret santa this year – much easier since we will all be travelling (only have to purchase one gift, yay!)
We live in Danang, Vietnam currently so the weather is warm. It’s been raining like crazy this week, but its almost the end of monsoon season so we can enjoy the beach again soon. Hopefully we’ll spend the weekend on the beach. We love cilantro. It used all the time in Vietnamese food.
Temperatures are falling, too! It’s supposed to be -38F with the windchill Saturday and Sunday night. Definitely not looking forward to it.
Oh wow. I did not know that cilantro and coriander are the same! Learned something new today. I’m going to use that to test my friend’s (a chef) knowledge of his craft. Haha.
The weather here in Sunny Ca is freezing cold at 60 degree:):) are you jelly?
No secret santa. We give individual gifts to all.
Love cilantro. My cooking is incomplete without it.
Happy Holidays to All!!!
I didn’t know that about coriander and cilantro either. I remember when I was working out of the house how exciting it would be the day before vacation started. Enjoy!
Really? We’re same! I’ve never watched Pirates in my entire life! I’m glad that you did.
I didn’t know that about coriander and cilantro either. That’s crazy.
It’s moderate winter here. Yes , we exchange gifts but never thought of playing secret santa. Sounds like a fun idea. Weekend is just relaxing at home with hot beverages and cozy bed.
I have no idea about cilantro and coriander either.. Exchange gift is a tradition to my family, it is always! so everybody happy. lol.
I just moved to Spain and am doing something similar to Secret Santa with my coworkers. They are so funny cuz they think I’ve never heard of it.
Enjoyed reading! 🙂
Oh my gosh Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourite movies. So fun! I always tend to call cilantro coriander as that’s what it’s called in the UK.
I want to be somewhere warm at this time of the year. Our temps in MN are sub zeros lately.
Have a fantastic break! I’m jealous of you going someplace warm. It’s FREEZING in St. Louis and my normal 40 minutes commute last night took over two and a half hours due to ice!
It is sooo cold and snowy here right now. I hate it. And my girls don’t have half days at their school. They also haven’t started winter break yet.
Our weather has been slightly crazy. We had 10 degrees on Thursday, 60 on Saturday and 25 this morning. It something that is always difficult to adjust to… I just don’t think one can. Hope you have a fantastic time off work.
We don’t Secret Santa at home but we do at work. I think it’s fun. 🙂
Seriously from the same plant? I had no idea. I bet the gift exchange was fun and I can’t bring myself to watch that movie. Was it good?
I wish I would of added a gift exchange to the party I held last night
I am so jealous of your two week break. Temps here have dropped to
The single digits and I’m hating that I have to be out in it!
Who doesn’t love Fridays! Especially when you’re about to welcome a long vacation! I hope you all had a great time exchanging gifts!
Oh my the weather here is crazy… We had like 5 days of snowfall which is very common… It resulted in about 4.5 feet of snow but then the last couple of days it has been warm (+3 and +5) for here. So a lot of snow we had has melted and created a nice ice patch everywhere. Thank goodness for gravel. I call it Foot shuffling time since I don’t pick up my feet to walk I shuffle them… The end of this week it is supposed to start snowing again….
The weather here in Ohio has been miserable. Right now it’s currently 5 degrees. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my faves!
Coriander and cilantro come from the same plant?! What?! That’s amazing!!!
How have you never watched POTC until then!
Adorable post! The weather by me is FREEEEEZING and i wish I could be sipping on a frozen drink on a beach somewhere 🙁
I love the idea of the virtual gift opening – what a great way to create a family gathering without the whole family having to juggle schedules for travel.
