Fun Facts Friday: 10/7/16

Good morning!

I woke up starving this morning, so I’m just over here eating a spoonful of PB while the Keurig warms up. Does anyone else eat straight from the jar?

I’m looking forward to this weekend since Ankur will have some down time away from the books. We will probably go for a hike tomorrow morning and then there’s a festival in Cumberland Gap with arts, crafts, and some wine tasting. (Can you guess why I’ll be there?!)

But, before I tuck the laptop away for the next few days, let’s do some fun facts from this past week below.

1) Brenda is offering her Step Class on Fridays now!

This is great because I don’t really know how to build up the motivation to work out on Fridays. But, with Brenda leading the way, I’m sure it’ll be much easier. (If you’re new around here, here’s Brenda. She is the best step aerobics instructor I’ve ever met.)

2) In addition to having students graph their reading growth, I’ve been sending them around school with post-it notes taped to their shirts.

When I first did this, it was a way of communicating this information to their classroom teachers. The teachers don’t really have time in the day to connect about what’s going on in the intervention groups so sending this post-it note with the kiddo was my way of relaying their growth on a particular reading skill. Well, the post-its are a HIT. The kids love wearing them around school and are so proud of themselves. Who would have thought that a post-it and some tape was enough incentive for kiddos to be fully engaged in our group work?

3) I turned on the heat and seat warmer in my car this week.

The days are still warm, but it’s been freezing in the mornings on my way to work. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to handle it when the temperature drops below 30!

4) Yesterday, after step class, I got to catch up with a few friends on the phone while walking around the neighborhood.

The time change makes it hard for me to stay in touch with all of my west coast folks. Mainly because I’m in my bed by 9PM most days. But, getting to talk to Julie and Brianna last night made my heart feel so warm and fuzzy. Thank you ladies for letting me vent, making me laugh, and reminding me how lucky I am to have people like you in my lives!

5) Yesterday, one of the kiddos in my school made a “retainer” using a paper clip.

I remember doing that as a kid! I was so jealous of my friends who had braces and glasses and I wanted them BOTH. But I had to settle for a paper clip retainer because my teeth were FINE. And, with my eyesight being 20/20, I had to settle for using my dad’s glasses when he wasn’t around. I thought I was the only weird kid that shoved metal paperclips in my mouth. Did anyone else do this?!

  1. Yes, I definitely eat PB from the jar. Didn’t make retainers as a kid (although I needed braces). I didn’t get said braces until I became an adult.

  2. Definitely eat PB from the jar. No to the retainer…didn’t know that was a thing, especially since I had a real one! And….flying to see Niagara Falls from the Canadian side this weekend, and then a wedding in NY this weekend!

  3. I definitely eat almond butter straight from the jar! Usually right before I go to the gym so I have a little boost of protein to keep me going through my workout.

  4. I turned on the heating and seat warmer in my car as well and it was heavenly, because the mornings are really cold here now, too! Happy Friday

  5. I LOVE peanut butter. I’ve eaten spoonfuls of it from the jar in the past, but nowadays I like to dip a Hershey’s chocolate bar in it. Chocolate and peanut butter is my all-time favorite combination haha as for paper clip retainers, no, I never did that. I’m thinking about it and it actually sounds kind of dangerous if you ask me lol and I never felt jealous of those with braces and glasses either.

  6. Well I can’t say I’ve ever eaten PB out of the jar but sounds fun! I was laughing when I read “I turned on the seat warmer in my car”! I don’t know why but I made be laugh!

I’m glad you’re able to make a difference in your school with your students. In Cali it just seems like everything is as if the student are on a processing belt in a factory. Unfortunate I know! But it is what it is.

  7. My guess at why you will be at the festival…………… obviously wine tasting:):)hahaha,

Enjoy your time with Ankur. xoxoxoxo
    Great weekend to All!!

  8. Forgot to comment on your “Post It Sticker” idea.
    Awesome…Brilliant….

I bet you this recognition is going to motivate the kids even more.
    God Bless you brilliant teacher.

  10. A retainer out of paper clips. Well, that’s a new one. To answer question 1- yes, I too dive right into the PB jar. Sometimes there is no tableware involved…

  11. I’m not a fan of peanut butter. I’ve always wanted to get into PB&J’s, but nope, not over here. I’ve never even heard of a paper clip retainer before. I wonder how that even works.

As for the weekend, I have no idea what I’m doing. Time to figure something out.

  12. I’m guilty of eating PB straight from jar. I think it’s more delicious that way.. LOL. When we are kids (I think until now), there’s this school sidewalk vendor that offer brace / retainer like thin wire with design that will be perfectly fitted with your teeth. The catch, he will get the size of your gums by measuring it using their hands! HAHA

  13. I cant wait to be able to use seat warmers. THey make me feel so cozy on my drives. Have a great weekend!

  14. Yes, I am guilty of eating peanut butter from the jar. I made pretend braces using foil candy wrappers and retainers from paper clips. This weekend, I will be working, so there’s not much fun going on in my world.
