February Lately

Good morning from Asheville! Bet you didn’t think I’d be posting over the weekend, didja?

February Lately

Well, today’s a special one. Because I’m collaborating with beautiful mama and blogger extraordinaire, Brandi Kennedy. My favorite posts to write (and read!) are always the ones that share a little insight about a blogger’s life. A little behind-the-scenes. So, each month, I like to write a “Lately” post where I share what’s been going on as of late.

Brandi and I are both playing the Lately game today and I encourage you to join in by dropping your own Lately link-up below! And, if you’re not a blogger or don’t have a post to share, play along in the comments and share with us what’s been going on as of late! 🙂

Reading Lately:

Small Great Things Quotes

I finished this book last weekend and am still suffering from a book hangover. I can’t pick up a new book quite yet. Jodi Picoult’s words had me feeling all the feels. She’s a wonderful writer and I’m pretty confident that the next book I read will be one of hers.

Watching Lately:

game of thrones

I CANNOT believe that I’m enjoying this show. This is absolutely NOT the type of thing I watch. (If you know me at all, you know I’m the “Friends re-runs” and “romantic comedies” type of gal. NOT the kind of girl that would get a kick out of knights being beheaded.) But there are so many twists and turns that it’s hard not to get invested in the show.

Trying Lately:

Bombay Chili Cheese Fries

Our first stop when we got to Asheville yesterday was Chai Pani. They’re known for their western take on Indian street food. We ordered Bombay Chili Cheese fries to start. Fries topped with lamb, paneer, tomatoes, onions and chutney. The description on the menu itself said, “Yes. It’s awesome.” We were really impressed with the place. Everything tasted SO good but also relatively light for being an Indian food place. Normally, I tend to leave Indian restaurants with a belly ache from all the oil and butter. But this place had all the flavor without making us feel disgusting.

Cooking Lately:

weight watchers enchilada casserole

I’m definitely not cooking this weekend. But, earlier this week, I made a Weight Watchers casserole to celebrate National Margarita Day. Casseroles are my favorite. The leftovers last for days!

Eating Lately:

Ankur and I are eating our way through Asheville right now! Last night, we went to Plant for dinner. It’s a vegan restaurant that serves craft beers and biodynamic wines. And it was absolutely delicious. Ankur ordered a “cheese” plate and I ordered the tofu bimbimbap. We finished off every single morsel on our plate and then ordered a Blackout cake for dessert.

Drinking Lately:

Soy Mocha - Liberty Cafe

We just got back from Liberty House Coffee. Can I just pause here to talk about how much I miss living near a coffee shop? Like a real coffee shop. I’m indulging in all things coffee and food this weekend and I feel absolutely no guilt.

Questions of the Day:

  • What are you reading lately? Drinking lately? Eating lately?

  1. I love your idea about things that you’re enjoying “lately”. Thanks for the opportunity to link up. This is such a great way to interact with your readers. Now that I know about it, I’ll be on the lookout for your “March Lately” post. Thanks!

  2. I might have to go find a weight watchers cookbook and thumb through to find some great recipes. Great reminder how delicious these meals are.

  3. We must think alike. I have Jodi’s book on my reading list and am really looking forward to it. I tend to get my books at the library though so it might be another week before it’s my turn. I am also afraid to watch Game of Thrones as I don’t like to be assaulted with violence, blood, or anything negative. I tend to watch things like Heartland or When Calls the Heart, but have been curious about Game of Thrones. Maybe I will give it a try…

    1. I dislike anything with violence also! Which is why I will only watch it with my husband sitting next to me (he’s already seen every single episode so he can tell me to shield my eyes if a particularly violent scene is coming up!)

  4. I can’t wait to read that Jodi Picoult book! I love her! I’m currently reading Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. It’s pretty good.
Those enchiladas look pretty good, too! might have to try em!

  5. This is such a great idea for a post!

I just finished “Blackbird” by Jennifer Lauck. Amazing book. I’m hoping to write a review on my blog, but I’ve never blogged a book review before…

  6. You had me at cheese plate. Yums. I’m lovin’ the Lately theme. I’m always reading, but I would say that lately I’m reading books about success and the real reasons we don’t accomplish as much as we’d hoped. Thank you for the opportunity to share. Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Does it suggest that we prioritize the wrong things? I feel like that’s why I don’t get the stuff done that I want to get done! I do the things that are easier to do, but less important!

    1. I’ve actually not read a single book of hers before, but now that I know they’re all pretty big hits, I’m downloading every last one of them!

  7. I love this idea of sharing “what [you] love lately.” Coffee is LIFE! When we moved to Oregon I couldn’t believe all the coffee shops we here. And then we visited Seattle…*sigh* The Pacific Northwest is my coffee haven!

    1. The only time I went to Oregon was for a wedding. While I got to explore Portland a bit, it was not nearly enough time! I hope to go back soon!

  8. The hubs and I have been dying to make it Asheville lately (no pun intended). I’ll put Plant and the Indian Place on our must try list! Those cheese fries look amazing!

  9. Well since I’m trying to get in shape for summer, anything I eat or drink I lately has been healthy. But very tasty. I can’t do boring healthy food.

  10. I LOVE Game of Thrones so much. It’s one of my favorite shows ever.

I also love Jodi Picoult. Her latest book was amazing. It’s being turned into a movie and I cannot wait to watch.

  11. I love Jodi Picoult. Every book I’ve read of hers thus far has left a lasting impact, and makes me ever the more eager to read her other books (I currently have a pile on my bookshelf to read).

I’m totally going to have to join in with these lately posts though, I think it’s a fabulous idea!

    1. Yes! You should when we do it in March! E-mail me if you’re interested and we can pick a date that works for everyone’s blogging schedule <3

  12. Oh my gosh! Those fries look SO good! We have a similar place in Atlanta. I’ll have to see if they have something like this there. Awesome post!

    1. Yes! I actually found out about Chai Pani by going to it in Atlanta first! But, since I had gone in Atlanta without my husband, I wanted him to try out the delicious food too. So I knew it was a must-do restaurant when we were planning our Asheville trip 🙂

  13. I am drinking a lot of coffee lately and watching Reign. I started to watch Game of Thrones but it’s not for me. I just watch the 3 first episodes of season 1.

  14. I could definitely go for a plate of those cheese fries and that coffee about now. They both look amazing. 🙂

    1. You live in a beautiful place! If I were to plan another visit within the next year, when would you suggest I come? I imagine the colors are so beautiful in the fall or spring. Do you have a preference?

  15. Lately i set aside the book am reading and gave focus on DIY-ing.. maybe I’ll continue reading this weekend. And hopefully I could run a review!

  16. I love these types of blog posts cause I am always learning something new! I haven’t heard of that book before but now I am intrigued and want to go check it out. That Plant place and coffee shop also look delicious! I have been hesitant to watch Game of Thrones because I don’t think it’s a show I would like but considering you enjoyed it and don’t typically watch that type of show maybe I will be surprised as well? I might have to give it it a try!

    1. I’m right there with ya! I DESPISE shows and movies like Game of Thrones. But the plot is just so addicting. (I make my husband sit next to me and warn me before any violent scenes come on – since he’s seen it before! It’s the only way I can get through it)

  17. This is a very cool post. I had never thought of just going over various things going on in my life. Love the different things you are doing, in life and with this blog.
