Early 20s vs. Late 20s

Early 20s vs Late 20s.jpg

This post is brought to you by this late 20s gal who tried to partake in some early-20s shenanigans on Friday night.

It’s inspired by this hilarious, but all-too-true post I read over the weekend.

I almost peed my pants when I read through the post. Although that’s like an 80-year old thing to do. Luckily, I kept my bladder under control.

I think the ones that really spoke to me were:

Driving, in general

Early 20s: I think driving recklessly is fun!
Late 20s: Those damn youths make me terrified of being on the road.

Cleaning your apartment

Early 20s: Hahahah, clean? Me? Are my parents coming to visit? No? Then, put that vacuum away, sir!
Late 20s: If this apartment is not clean by every Monday morning, then I am going to lose my goddamn mind!

Water

Early 20s: Something I drink to offset all the alcohol in my body.
Late 20s: Something I drink because my body is no longer working on autopilot and the struggle to survive is real.

It got me thinking about how MUCH I’ve really changed over the course of a few years. So I decided to create a few of my own:

Early 20s: Subway. All day. Every day. #EatFresh

Late 20s: Proud owner of a CSA subscription. Fresh vegetables. Local farms. #EatFreshER

full circle

Early 20s: Happy Hour at least 3 days per week. Which turned to Happy HOURS. Which turned to happy nights. Sleep at 2AM. Wake up at 7. Go to work. Repeat.

Late 20s: Happy Hour = grabbing a bottle of wine on your way home. Finishing it off with roommate by 8:30. Crawling into bed by 9 to guarantee that you will still get at least 8 hours of sleep.

Early 20s: No cab? No problem. I will run home in the rain.

Late 20s: No cab? Are you kidding me? I can’t afford to get SICK. There’s no time for that shit.

sudafed

Early 20s: Music. All the time. In the shower. On the drive to work. Before I go to sleep. When I wake up and get ready.

Late 20s: Can I just have some damn peace and quiet around here?!

Early 20s: $2 Long Islands

Late 20s: One of the many bottles of wine you’ve accumulated from your grown-up dinner parties.

Early 20s: Leave the apartment to get to the bar by 10PM.

Late 20s: Leave the bar to get to the apartment by 10PM.

Early 20s: 5-Hour Energy poured into a Rockstar Energy Drink. 2 times a day.

Late 20s: Iced Coffee.

Early 20s: FOMO

Late 20s: JOMO

party rockstar

Early 20s: Cram as many people into the hotel as possible. I don’t mind sleeping in the bathtub.

Late 20s: There’s 2 beds and 5 people. Guess we gotta book 2 rooms.

Early 20s: You want to hang out in 20 minutes? SURE. I’m free!

Late 20s: Dinner? Can you send me a Google Calendar invite please?

flexy friend

Early 20s: 10,000 Facebook Friends.

Late 20s: No, I don’t want to hear your life updates, guy-I-met-at-a-party-ONCE. Social cleanse. Delete. Delete. Delete.

I can’t say that one period of my life is better than the other. I just know that there are a lot of differences between now and then!

Question of the Day:

  • What are some of your early 20s vs. late 20s comparisons?

  1. Fun read… I was much older than you when I learned all those lessons! Not sure if that is better or worse but I am sure you are gonna age more gracefully …hahahaha

  2. Early 20s: Ride the metro (DC’s version of subway) at 1am drunk and alone.
Late 20s: I don’t take the metro period.

I seriously can’t believe I would ride it alone and drunk. And then proceed to walk to my apartment in the pitch dark.

  3. lol these are hilarious and so true. My friend is totally the one who wants to be back home by 10 PM, I’m like really?? Though I can relate to so many of these. $2 LITs!! That makes me remember those good ol’ college days. So funny.

  4. Hahahahah this is AWESOME! And so very true! I love the one about leaving and being back at the apartment, as that is exactly how I end up….especially when I am in my tough training segments….if I even make it out the door that is.

  5. OMG Love love love!!! This is all so true! My boyfriend and I always talk about how we used to go out late and come home late and now we are lucky if we can stay out until 11. Haha! I can just appreciate getting up earlier and being productive! Great post!

  6. Hilarious Divya! I love the sleep in the bathtub one because it is so relevant to a plan I’m making for a cousins reunion with varying age groups (mid 20s to late 30s) but these are the best <3

  7. I love this! I am signing up for your new posts as well! I am 28 and as I get closer to the end of my twenties I am finding out that I get more irritated by the things some people do that are in their teens and beginnings of their 20s. I used to drink liquor now I prefer a nice glass of wine, I used to stay out late and now I am going to bed at the time I used to leave the house to party! I would drink Red bulls now I am a Starbucks junkie and adore coffee. Ah growing up is beautiful.

  8. See, it’s kind of been the complete opposite for me. In my early twenties, I was married, working all the time, never drank or went out, and just kind of stayed home with my husband and my cats. I divorced when I was 23 and then moved to the city last year at the age of 25. And I’ve been going WOOOOO ever since.

  9. Since I spent my 20s pregnant I can’t even answer that question. Wait until you are in your forties and can’t stay awake past 12 and everything hurts and if I don’t drink 4 glasses of water Im gonna get a cramp. The good part is you don’t care, you just don’t lol

  10. this article made me smile today. I am 37 and heck I can recall distinct differences between early 30’s and now late 30’s. The 20’s items you listed were so true too. especially about peace and quiet.
