Confessions of a BloggerHolic #53 [#LinkUp]

Good morning, everyone! Today is February 1st and, as promised, I am here to report on my January goals. How appropriate that this check-in should fall on Confessional Wednesdays. Because, though I tried to limit myself to three goals in an effort to achieve them all, I achieved 0 out of 3. So let’s run through each of them and figure out why it happened and how I can work harder in February.

Progress on January Goals:

By 1/31/16, I will read two books.
I read 1.5. I gotta be honest. I had more than enough time to read two books. But, I spent the last two weeks glued to news reports and NPR. When I made these goals at the beginning of January, I didn’t realize our crazy-ass President was going to turn the world upside down in less than a week.

By 1/31/16, I will lose 5 pounds.
Um, would you believe me if I said I gained 2 pounds instead of losing five? (If you follow me on Snapchat and saw me snap those pictures of potato chip nachos yesterday, you’re probably rolling your eyes at me and saying, “Duh”). But, I realized toward the end of January that I just can’t do it with the Weight Watchers e-tools alone. I need someone to weigh me in once a week. I need to know that somebody is going to be looking at my weight. So I signed up to attend the meetings again.

By 1/31/16, I will complete a blogging course.
I finished more than half of it. The thing is that once I learn something new through a video or a session, I’ll want to immediately go play around with my blog and my Dashboard. But, that’s part of the learning process, right? I won’t actually learn it if I don’t attempt to fiddle with it myself.

February Goals:

I’ll be back on Friday with some new monthly goals after I spend some more time thinking about actionable items I want to focus on.

Have a good one! <3

Questions of the Day:

  • How did you do on your January goals?
  • Or, if you set yearly resolutions, how are they going?

  1. Potato chip nachos? I need to find a recipe for those immediately! Well, here’s to Feb being a better month.

  2. I love it: “January was just a warm-up.” Amen to that! I’ve been doing fairly well on my goals, but not to perfection! So glad to have found your blog!

  3. I didn’t quite hit my January goals either, but I love the “just a warm up” meme. So well said, I might have to steal that? 😉 And why are we not connected on SnapChat?! (cml599)

  4. “January was just a warm-up” is actually a good attitude to have, in my opinion. Just because something doesn’t go quite as well as I hoped doesn’t mean I should ditch the idea completely. You made some progress, and that’s a win in my book.

  5. I want to take a blogger course, but I also dont want to pay (big bucks) for one that I know most of what they are teaching. I need to find one that I really “know” what they will be teaching – and then sign up for that one!

  6. Ugh to the news waylaying reading time. I hear you. However, I found my reading of mindless romances has increased in order to escape. I had to even give up dystopian novels as they were starting to sound eerily real all of a sudden in the Trump era.

  7. Crapola–I wanted to add blogging course to my goals for February, too! Will have to remember that for the next month 🙂

Great goals, momma! And I did the same with news this month and I think it contributed to falling behind a bit. I mean, the world has been insane lately, so who could blame us?

    Xoxo

  8. I feel like posting goals on the blog is a great way to stay on top of them. I totally agree with the weight loss goal, I need someone to talk to me and inspire me otherwise it won’t work (except I’m trying to gain muscle haha!)

  9. Sometimes having someone there who is keeping you accountable and monitoring your progress is exactly what you need to stick to your weight loss goals. Good luck in Feb girl! <3

  10. I have not set monthly goals only ones I want to achieve by the end of the year. However I know I can do a lot better because like you, I spend a lot of time on “useless” things lol. Good to see that you are making the extra effort of achieving your goals. Even if it means having someone check your weight. Good luck.

  11. Ughhh I have been slacking on the reading too!!!! Social media and the news have been too entertaining lately. Is that bad I’m using all of the nonsense going on as entertainment 🙈 Lol….

  12. HA! love that image! seriously, January WAS just practice. I am having a hard time sticking to my weight loss goals too. Maybe next month!

  13. It’s good that you’re holding yourself accountable. Random things always seem to get in the way of plans. I’ve been slowly but surely watching a series of video tutorials for a new program I need to learn.

  14. I didn’t do to go on my January goals either, but it’s just an incentive to try again and succeed. I need to catch up on my reading too.

  15. HAHAHA about Trump! On another note I think he is throwing a lot of people off. I started a yoga challenge and did so good until all this stuff with the refuges/Muslims. With that said I caught up on my three day slack.

  16. I lost 6 pounds in January…I had just planned on losing something, so I’m great with it. – I bought a new cookbook and have read the entire thing (foodblogger problems, lol)….I didn’t even have reading down as a goal, so I’m good with that. – I did accomplish posting three new recipes a week on my blog and planning out my week in advance to make sure that I get everything done. February goals – I want to lose 2 pounds. I lost 6 in January, so I don’t want to lose too much too quick. I want to get another cookbook and read through it. I’m a little bit addicted. January was Alton Brown’s, not sure what I want this next one to be. I also want to continue 3 new recipes a week.

  17. loved these goals. I’m going to steal and revamp for them to fit my life!! I did pretty good in January, but I’m the same – I set monthly goals but I also have yearly goals. For example, for the month of Feb I hope to read one book and stay consistent with my blogging schedule. I’m in grad school for my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and I hope i graduate with a 4.0!

  18. I love that you are at least tracking your goals and following up on them. And although you did meet what you wanted to meet, you’re still at it…that’s a win in itself.

  19. Reading this post makes me realize I need to start making my social media audits. The picture made me laugh, too; January was indeed a practice session. 😉

  20. I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t finish a blogging course to save my life. They all seem so easy & quick, but you are right, when you start doing the course lessons on your blog it can make the time it take to complete weeks longer than just reading it!

  21. Sometimes it is not about the completion of goals, but the journey to reach them. You made progress! Just like we tell our students, that is really what counts. You will knock it all out in no time!

  22. Great Goals Divya.
As you said, January was just a practice.
    2017 Officially starts today.
    Good luck with your goals.
    YOU CAN DO IT!!

  23. Honestly, it sounds like you did a great job in January. Even though you didn’t reach exactly what you set out for, you still made a dent in it. And even the weight gain helped you realize what you need. Sounds like a win!

  24. Oh reading, how I miss you. Good job on reading 1.5 books, even though you didn’t meet your goal, that’s still good. 🙂 Good luck in your weight loss!!

  25. I am also horrible at not finishing the courses I do. So many online distractions. Which blogging course are doing right now?

  26. I love that reading is one of your goals! I find as I get older I make less and less time for reading. Which is really too bad! Reading is so important for a healthy mind!

  27. You might not have achieved your goals but you sure did make progress. you have identified the reasons why you failed to achieve your goals and can use them to achieve the Feb goals.

  28. Those are really good goals and, hey, who can blame you about #1?? As for #2, here’s my philosophy: if Oprah, who can, arguably, pay someone to smack the potato chip nachos out of her hands every time she goes overboard struggles with wait, I’m going to cut myself some slack. And #3? Great goal. In fact I’m borrowing it for myself.

    Bring it on, February!

  29. Best of luck as you work towards your goals this month. It’s not easy to do these things and writing them down like this I think really puts that in perspective!

  30. Bless, I totally know what you mean about those nachos haha I’m currently sat here breathing extra heavily because my belly is full of curry & rice haha! It’s a cheat day I guess:)
Sorry if you’ve mentioned it but what blogging course are you doing? I’m really interested! xx

  31. Well at least your holding yourself accountable for your goals. I hope you arent beating yourself up too much its still the beginning of 2017. I wish you well for accomplishing your goals in Feb!

  32. Every new year starts with new goals and it is a fresh start for everyone of us. I think you have made a good progress in your goals so far in January and weight loss plan is always going to be challenging for sure!

  33. As a military wife who could barely handle her busy schedule I am truly glad I came across your post. I can’t blame you if you are always glued to the news these days. I think it’s crazy out there. Anyway, don’t lose hope on your goals! You can do it! Goodluck!

  34. I did okay with my January goals. Because my workload isn’t consistent, my goals can sometimes get put on the back burner. I definitely need to turn social media off and reading all the news stories because I feel like I spend way too much time consumed with all the craziness going on in this country.

  35. This is awesome, that quote had me laughing because it’s so true that January is just a warm up. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the goals, although it’s nice that you got to read a book and a half!

  36. I should also sign up for a blogging course because I’m really a newbie but I don’t want to pay lots and then never use it, and I’m also a bit scared that the level of teaching will be too high for me. You should be able to take one lesson for free and see if it’s something for you…

  37. One of my resolutions for 2017 is to read at least one book per month. I still have not started though, but reading your post has motivated me to not give up. Thanks for sharing.

  38. I love this post as I can totally relate to it. I am lagging behind my blogging goals. It is to publish one article per week. I have been too absorbed on affiliate links as I also want to earn just like what other bloggers do. I think I need to know what to prioritize as I cannot accomplish everything in just one day.
