Yesterday, when I dropped Ishu off at school, his teacher stood at the door, waiting for him to take off his jacket and hang up his backpack. While he sat on the little bench taking off his socks to slip his feet into his inside shoes, she told me a sweet story that made my heart feel so warm and fuzzy.
Before Ishu started school, his teacher asked us to share a family picture of the three of us. She prints out everyone’s family photos, frames them, and places them around the classroom. That way, they have the reminder of their loved ones right there on days when they’re feeling homesick.
She said that Ishu picked the frame up from one of the shelves and placed it on the shelf closest to his cot.
“Did you move it closer to where you sleep?” she asked him.
He responded, “Yes, so I can sleep next to mama and papa.”
MY SWEET LITTLE ANGEL BABY.
He’s so kind.
So sensitive and loving and kind.
He’s had a fair share of meltdowns this week. That after-school restraint collapse. (And if you follow my Insta stories, the chili on our ceiling has shown just how ‘collapsed’ this kid feels at the end of the day).
But, man he’s got a real good heart.
Yesterday, he woke up at 5:30am. And when he wakes up too early and has too much time with his toys, he’s a little more resistant to leave for school. So we stuck to the normal routine and left the house a little earlier than usual. I told him we could stop and get a donut for his teacher. And then, when we were in the store picking up the donut, he wanted to make sure we got some for his two other teachers (the assistant guides) in the classroom.
He’s my sweet little kid.
Big emotions. Big heart. So many feelings all the time. Some harder to navigate than others. But when I see his sweet, kind personality come out, I know we’re doing alright.
