When The House Gets Quiet

It’s Sunday afternoon and I’m sittin’ on the couch with nothing but the hum of the dishwasher in the background.

Riyu’s taking a nap and Ankur just took Ishu to see Zootopia 2 in the theaters.

They rarely get 1:1 time like that and I was thrilled at the idea because, hello, mom gets to read a book in peace in the AFTERNOON?! Most of my reading happens at 2am because I’ve been woken up and I can’t get back to sleep. So this feels like a nice little treat.

We did our pickleball thing at the gym this morning, and it was especially nice because so many people are traveling for the holidays. Open courts right when we got there. One of our friend’s dads is visiting from Germany, and it was fun having him jump in and join the pickleball crew.

Ishu was sick earlier last week so we haven’t been able to do all the Christmasy things we had planned. But maybe that’s not such a bad thing. It forced us to slow down and take it easy at home. Maybe we don’t need to be running from one holiday activity to the next. Maybe we can choose a handful and not run ourselves into the ground.

He was bummed to miss his school party and our cozy movie night with the Potters but now we get to extend the holiday fun and have something to look forward to in the gloomy month of January. I’ve always been a fan of #LongLiveChristmas.

Mama Papa get in tomorrow and are spending the week with us! The kids are going to be so excited to do fun holiday things with Nani and Nanu. And I’m trying to find lots of indoor activities for us to do ’cause when you’re coming in from California, I’m pretty sure the last thing you wanna do is be outside in Chicago. Ha.

Gifts from Auntie Anna!

Anyway, I thought I’d come on here because I always gravitate toward my book and/or my blog when the apartment gets quiet. So here I am.

Up next, my book. (And maybe some cookies!).

Hope you’re all enjoying the holidays as best you can. I’m realizing more and more that they don’t have to be full to be meaningful. Sometimes they’re best when they’re quiet, a little slower, and with a little more rest built in.
