Everyone’s got something that triggers them.
Ishu can be drawing on walls, throwing stuff on the ground, running around in circles screaming ‘double decker bus’ and, for the most part, I can keep my cool.
But wake me up in my sleep one too many times?
I lose all the patience.
Not getting enough sleep is my trigger.
There are days I love co-sleeping. But on the nights he wakes up more than once or twice (or, worse, when he’s up for an extended period of time in the middle of the night), I. Am. Livid.
Ankur, on the other hand, seems so patient in the middle of the night. (Granted, Ishu’s always tugging at ME, trying to wake ME up. But still). Ankur’s emotions don’t come out at 3am the way mine do. I will actually shove Ishu off me and push him all the way over to Ankur’s side because I just cannot.
That’s my trigger.
I’ll be patient with the kid all day. But ruin my nighttime sleep and I become a monster.
Anyway.
I think I’ve discovered Ankur’s biggest trigger.
I thought maybe it’s when Ishu throws food when he’s done eating.
Ankur really doesn’t like messiness and I can see him get a little flustered when Ishu does that.
But YESTERDAY, I found the real trigger. The big trigger.
We got an apple pie with our Imperfect Foods shipment this week. Figured it’d be a fun treat to have while Nikku Chacha is in town with us.
Last night, I was lying in bed while Ishu was boppin’ around with an underwear on his head.
Ankur came into the room with a bowl of warm apple pie + ice cream.
Dessert in bed!
He sat down on the other side of the bed. Ishu in the middle of us. Still boppin’ around.
Ishu fell back against Ankur and the contents of the bowl tipped out onto the bed.
And that right there was the trigger.
Not because the sheets were dirty. Definitely not that.
But because he thought he’d lose his precious dessert.
Ha.
So, all this to say, we’ve all got our triggers.
Sometimes it’s when we don’t get enough sleep.
And sometimes it’s when we don’t get enough dessert.
P.S. Ankur’s gonna read this post on the toilet and then say, “HEY!” when he realizes he’s the topic of today’s post and I’m going to laugh real loud like I do when I expose him on the Internet for being the dessert-loving monster that he is.
That is all. Thanks for participating in the Mathur family shenanigans.
Hope you have a weekend filled with sleep and dessert.
Question of the Day:
What’s your trigger?
