Wandering in A Strawberry Farm

The plan was to go to the beach and enjoy our afternoon treats (Me an iced coffee. Sissy – two LARGE P-Splashes) in the sun. Similar to Friday’s situation, however, the beautiful weather meant there were hundreds of people doing the same. So we decided to take a detour (more like FORCED to take a detour because there was no parking available anywhere!). Our long adventure landed us at TANAKA FARMS!

Now Newport Beach has been my permanent home….for nearly 25 years….and this is the first time I’ve set foot on the farm. I almost did back in high school, but it was basically me driving past the farm area and toward the golf-fancy-resort area for a scholarship event. This time, I was there for the dirty, not-supposed-to-have-sweaters-wrapped-around-your-neck strawberry -picking tour! =)

Technically, the tours stopped running because strawberries have been “out of season” for the past three weeks. But the nice lady let me go outside and take a look and I walked away with a few strawberries to add to our basket! =)

Found some nice big ones hiding!

Got a few other treats to supplement the strawberries:

CORN. Barbecued. Tasted so sweet. Yum.
Tropical Trail Mix: Peanuts, Almonds, Coconut, Papaya, Pineapple. MMMMMMM!
Thought I was walking away with only strawberries….but look at these grapes. How could I turn my back on these?!
Cause eating them this way is just way more fun….
<3 Tanaka Farms – I’ll be back in December to pick out my X-mas Tree!

Have you ever been to a Farmer’s Market that allowed you to pick your own fruit?

Are there any hidden places in your hometown that you’ve just recently discovered?
