Walk With Your Toes

Riyu’s pretty obsessed with shoes.

I think most toddlers are, right?

But, with him, it’s like any time there’s a new pair of shoes around, he immediately goes to put them on. Doesn’t matter whose they are, how big they are, THEY ARE RIYU’S NEW SHOES.

We have a storage bin that lives in the closet with old shoes of Ishu’s that he’ll someday wear. When he grows into them. Riyu likes to dig around in there every once in a while.

The other day, he came out wearing Ishu’s…..errr…excuse me….”Riyu’s new rainboots” and has been stomping around the house in them ever since.

Which means every other sentence outta my mouth is, “Not on the carpet Riyu.”

Yesterday, while we were walking to pick Ishu up from school, he kept saying something about toes. And when it’s cold outside, I’m mostly just trying to get from point A to point B so I wasn’t fully engaging in his monologue.

We stopped at a crosswalk, so I knelt down to hear what he was saying. And he was singing, “No shoes on the carpet. You have to walk with your TOES. Only your TOES.”

Everything we say sticks in his little brain.

So yes.

He hears everything I say.

Does he listen?

Absolutely not.

Does he archive my words and remix them later into a weird little chant?

Yes, yes he does.

Anyway, just wanted to share that Riyu’s very obsessed with his hand-me-down rainboots (still three sizes too big) and he knows that when you’re on the carpet, you must WALK WITH YOUR TOES.
