[For starters, I want to point out that I’m fully aware that Bacalar is not in Tulum. But I wanted to continue titling these posts Tulum Magic. Don’t yell at me.]
Back in California. A bittersweet feeling. Good thing I have the best people here with me to soften the blow. But, in the mean time, while I’m obsessively missing Mexico, I’m reliving our vacation with all the pictures.
On our last and final day in Mexico, we left Tulum and drove to Bacalar.
We stayed at Casa Aq’ab’al, the cutest bed and breakfast (#1 on TripAdvisor!), which was located just steps from the lagoon. It is a pretty crazy feeling to stand out on the dock, look out at the water, and not see a single soul in either direction.
We had a hammock in our room and the superenjoyer wasted no time getting comfortable.
It took Emily about a whole 5 seconds (from when we first walked down to the lagoon) to take off her shoes and dip her toes in the water. She’s the best superenjoyer there ever was.
We polished off our salads for lunch (from Burrito Amor, of course) and then quickly changed our clothes to maximize our time in the lagoon.
I can’t recreate the experience. No pictures, no words, no songs will ever come close to describing the complete serenity we felt that afternoon (although T. Swift came pretty close).
It was just us 4. Just the four of us. In that massive body of water. And we had it all to ourselves.
After spending all afternoon and the early evening in and around the water, we had dinner in Yolanda’s house. Between her and her husband, they run the whole joint. Her husband is responsible for making the food and drinks.
It was so homey and cozy and lovey.
The girls ordered pina coladas, but we all popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate the Israeli couple that was there on their honeymoon.
The superenjoyer loved ALL THE THINGS. (Isn’t she the cutest?)
Pedro, the chef and bartender and owner, made the yummiest dish of lasagna and mango chicken/tilapia.
We were in heaven. And breakfast the next morning (after our sunrise swim), was perfect as well. We are absolutely, 100% going back to Bakalar on our next trip to Mexico. So, so worth it.
After a few bumps and adventures on the way to the airport, we finally made it home.
Thank you Becky and Jen for sharing the Tulum magic with us and planning such a special trip.
Thank you Emily, AKA superenjoyer, for holding my hand the entire way back from Tulum to make sure I didn’t start crying during the turbulence.
Thank you to Cameron and Edgar x2 and Tom and Julietta and Yolanda and Ray and all the people that made Tulum so magical and beautiful.
I feel so grateful to have had such a special week with so many wonderful people.
