Normally I do a “Scenes from the Weekend” post every Monday, but our weekend was pretty uneventful, thanks to the rain. A lot of books, music, and Curious George.
Ishu and I did manage to get out of the apartment for a few hours to go to the museum. (Which is seriously going to be our saving grace in the winter!).
The Children’s Museum is located in this huge pavilion on the Navy Pier. And the pier is all decorated for Fall and Halloween. Pumpkins and skeletons along the walkway. And, when you enter the pavilion, there are two giant mummies that greet you near the information desk.
When Bhanu was here a few days ago, we went to eat deep dish pizza at Giordanos, which is right there at the front of the pavilion. So, while we were waiting for our table, I pointed the mummy out to Ishu and told him what it was called.
One time.
Then we sat down, ate dinner, went home (after he said “buh bye muh-mee”).
Four days have passed since then.
And we haven’t seen the mummy nor talked about the mummy.
But, yesterday, when we walked into the pavilion, he screamed, “MUH-MEE, MUH-MEE,” his legs kicking in delight.
He recognized the mummy. He knew the mummy’s name. And I was blown away yet again.
Another day where Ishu surprises me with what he is able to remember.
I joked with Ankur saying, the only reason he can retain these words so quickly is because he doesn’t have to worry about shit like rent or what to eat for dinner. He can just exist.
And maybe there’s some truth to that.
But, man, it doesn’t make it any less amazing to me.
Pretty sure toddlers are the smartest little things around.
