It’s been a while since I’ve done a post like this but my sister recently sent me a link to a “Things I’m Loving” post from four years ago when we were living in Harrogate and it made me nostalgic for these light-hearted posts. It was also just fun to see what sorts of things I was loving back then and how it compares to the things that bring me joy now. With a baby. In a pandemic. (Spoiler alert: It’s not wine. I know. I’m just as shocked as you are).
So, yes, I thought I’d bring back a TILL post. Who knows if I can keep up with it with our little guy keeping me so busy. But, for this week, here’s a round-up of the things I’ve been loving lately!
Deleting Social Media from my Phone
Ever since watching the Social Dilemma, I felt the urgency to put some space in between me and social media. I love it too much to delete it altogether. So, I just deleted the apps from my phone and then download them every time I want to share something (and then delete them again). I still allow myself to access FB and Insta on the computer if/when I want to, but I got rid of all that mindless scrolling I was doing. My screen time has gone down significantly and the time spent reading books has gone up!
The Wedding Date Series
Speaking of reading books, I’m currently going through the Wedding Date Series by Jasmine Guillory. They are all lighthearted and quick reads, which is pretty much what I can keep up with nowadays. But I like young adult fiction. I like the characters. And I like that it takes place in California – in both LA and NorCal. It makes me happy when fictional books reference places I know. Like Dolores Park. And getting burritos in the Mission. Anyway, if you’re looking for a light read, I recommend these five books!
Starting Solids
When Ishaan turned six months old, we started him on solids but eased our way into it. One food at a time. And, while we’re still being a little cautious, we’ve started experimenting with a lot more stuff and he is absolutely loving it. This kid LOVES FOOD so much. Just like his mama. Last night, we did roasted zucchini sprinkled with a little garlic powder and black pepper and he devoured it. His favorite is probably orange slices. And he’ll never turn down avocado. He cries when his food is finished and looks longingly at our plates when we’re eating without him. We’re pretty sure he’s a foodie already.
Teething Wafers
Speaking of crying when his food is finished, these teething wafers have been a helpful transition. Any time his food is done and I see the waterworks may be coming, we just hand him one of these wafers to distract him a little. My friend, Jen, recommended these to have on hand if we need them in a pinch. They sort of get soggy the minute they get in the baby’s mouth so we don’t worry about him choking on them. It’s been so fun to watch him bite into them. They are super sticky and I find pieces of them all over his clothing, but I’m glad we have a box of them in our pantry when we need them!
Annual Ornaments
I love picking out a few ornaments that represent our year. 2020 has been a hot mess, but our little guy has been the silver lining of it all. That’s why all our ornaments for this year are about him. This ornament is hanging on the tree at Newport and we’ll hang our other ornament on the San Ramon tree this upcoming week!
Anyway, I can see the baby stirring in the monitor so I’m going to sign off for now. But play along in the comments and share one or more things you’re loving this week!
