Things I’m Loving Lately #37

It’s been over a week since I’ve posted here, but not much has been happening. I wake up, work out, go to the office, come home, cook, and repeat.

Which has actually been kind of nice after our summer of travels!

There’s something pretty calming about having a repetitive routine. It’s predictable. And easy. (Though, you can probably ask me again in a week or two and I may be bored out of my mind).

Me in a nutshell.

But, for now, I’m loving the routine. So I’m running with it.

In addition to this routine we’ve fallen back into, there are a few other things making me smile. So, as I do (or attempt to do) each week, I’m popping in to share some things I’ve been loving as of late. Feel free to play along in the comments below and tell us what you’re loving this week!

Weekly Book Study

One of the 4th year med school spouses has mapped out a book study around this book and we’re meeting each week to discuss a few chapters at a time. We’ve all successfully survived the first year, but there’s something beneficial about coming together with people who know what “exam weekends” feel like and know all the medical school acronyms. Plus, it just feels nice to be part of a “book club” again and have something on the calendar each week.

Goddess Cards

Pulling these cards out in a teeny-tiny southern Baptist town makes me look like a crazy hippie, but man, the goddesses are speaking to me lately. I miss my Women’s Circle days when pulling goddesses was the norm. But, luckily, Ankur will entertain me as I select a goddess and then attempt to analyze what it means. This week, I pulled Sekhmet. Which is exactly what I needed to hear/read.

Her message is: “See yourself as strong and victorious. Don’t complain about anything. Don’t blame anyone or any condition. You’re the embodiment of strength, not victimhood. As you rise above the old tendencies and see yourself in the new light of beautiful feminine strength, your life will automatically shift in miraculous ways. You’ll attract new opportunities, forms of abundance, and relationships to help you manifest your highest potential. Being strong means seeing yourself in the most favorable light you can imagine. Be real, allow yourself to feel genuine emotions, but most of all, be strong.”

Afternoon/Evening Walks

It’s supposed to rain for the remainder of the week, but the last few days have been really nice in the late afternoons/early evenings. There have been so many studies that link time outdoors to improved happiness and I’m a strong believer. My mood has been elevated and I feel much more cheerful and I’m chalking it up to spending more time outside! I am eagerly waiting for the arrival of fall. Now that we’ve lived here for over a year and have experienced all four seasons, I’ve gotta say that fall is probably my favorite. I visualize more post-work walks and hikes in the near future.

Another Amazon Dress (with Pockets!)

If you’ve been following this blog for a while (or if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram), you know that my black and white polka-dotted dress is a personal favorite. I like that it’s super light and flow-y. But more importantly, I like that it’s got pockets. Well, I’ve pretty much worn out the dress from over-wearing it, but thankfully, they’re still selling it on Amazon (along with many other styles). This one pictured above just came in the mail and I LOVE IT. (Quite possibly more than the polka-dotted one). I’m all about not wearing pants. And also having clothes show up on my doorstep. (Speaking of which, have you heard of Prime Wardrobe?!)

Vet School Shenanigans

As the back-to-school posts and classroom set-up pictures have been popping up all over my newsfeed, I feel a constant pit in my stomach. Wishing more than anything that I could be setting up my own learning space and anticipating the arrival of my own students. But, there are fun moments throughout my day that help me feel better about the whole situation. Like, for example, when the Associate Dean puts on a horse head during a faculty/staff meeting. Or getting to meet the new College of Veterinary Medicine cohort. Being here from the very beginning of the year (instead of just inheriting a class mid-year) is SO MUCH BETTER. I loved leading icebreakers and getting to have conversations with some of the students. It makes me feel a lot more invested in what I’m doing.

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you prefer routine? Or adventures? Or a healthy mix of both?
  • Are you a pants person or a dress person?
  • What are you loving lately?

  1. I am a routine person but also need some things to be mixed up! I’m petite and wish I could find a maxi dress that didn’t need to be hemmed (even petites are long on me). I love your photos from campus, they are always so beautiful!!

  2. How awesome that you have a book club with other women who get what you are going through! I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Fall is the best. Also, I love both pants and dresses, really it depends on my mood. 😉

  3. Ohhh no please take me out of this life in rutin! I am born to be a wanderess and to explore! Its harder now when I have become a stay at home mum. Day feels like year!😂 But another 9month than we are out exploring the world as a family! If I die of boredome before that!🙏

PS. Life as a longterm travel can aswell fall in rutins. But that kind of rutin is way more exciting than I have now!

I’m a dress and skirt person (even in winter – I just add stockings)
Loving the “it is Friday and the weekend is less than 2 hours away” feeling.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. What a great idea and support group with the book club! I’m looking forward to the start of the semester. Too much time by myself over the summer starts to mess with me after awhile!

  6. Two things…. Maxi dress with POCKETS? And Goddess cards? I think I’m in love! I also agree, there is something soothing about having a routine, even if it bores you silly in a week…. then just change it up to a new routine! I do it all the time. =)

  7. I love non structured summer breaks but Im ready to get back to a routine around here. Also, I need to embrace dresses, but I have been living in leggings. What have I been loving? Sleeping in, ice cold water, netflix, life talk with my boys. Life itself 🙂

  8. I’ve been enjoying the evenings sitting on my screened in porch lately! It’s nice weather and the mosquito’s can’t bother me! Love ALL dresses with pockets too.

  9. I crave structure and routine in the worst way. Also that dress (with pockets!) is adorable. Always looking for long flowy dresses for the summer.

Omg I totally want a pack of goddess cards!!

Thank god you work with people who break up the boring in the day, eh?? 🙂

Xoxo and have a great weekend!

  10. I currently work at a community college and back to school is crazy hectic, but there are definitely some fun moments!

Your book group sounds great. How fun! It’s nice that you have women around that get your situation.

And OMG, I love dresses with pockets. If I ever get married, I must have pockets. 🙂

  11. Happy Friday girl! I hope you’re doing well, we haven’t chatted in awhile but I see you’re having a great/full summer. 🙂

That horse head is epic. I love routine and knowing what to expect from my days, spontaneity, although I’m open, I just get anxious of the unknown, you know?

    Enjoy your weekend lovey. Xo

  12. I’m a jeans person but would love to wear flowing long dresses as much as possible – if only I had places to wear these. I think I’m a hippie at heart but can’t wear hippie clothes to the office! Love the goddess cards by the way – I have a very similar set 🙂

  13. i’m a creature of habit, and while i’d rather say i’d prefer spontaneity, i know my life is fairly routine. still, while i might begin and end my day at roughly the same time each day, and the activities might not vary overly much, if i were to have them scheduled out, i would cringe.

pants or dresses? if it’s between jeans and fitted dresses, i’ll take jeans. if it’s between pants and a maxi or a sundress, i’ll take the dress.

what am i loving lately? blue bloods, madame secretary, game of thrones, coca-cola, applesauce, the julia gilmore roses and goldenrod print that’s the first thing i see when i wake up and one of the last things i look at before going to bed.

  14. I love that cartoon! I have missed our routine with our crazy summer that we had. I’m so thankful it’s back to school time and we can find our happy little routine again. And thanks for the reminder, I need to get back to doing evening walks with my dog. I haven’t been taking care of myself lately.

  15. I’d love to say I love adventure, because I do! But I love it more when it’s planned into my daily routine 😂 I’m a routines girl, for sure! And if the pants aren’t of the yoga variety, I’m pretty much out!

  16. I’ve always wanted certain routines that I continue with in the midst of adventures… like drinking my peppermint water every morning or a detailed skincare routine in the evening. I definitely prefer adventures, but I like the idea of having something that’s constant and steady in the midst of them. 🙂

That maxi dress is so cute! It’s so cool that it has pockets too!
