Good morning from Knoxville!
I’m attending a conference here today so I drove up yesterday after work and stayed the night so I could have a nice, slow start to the day. Preferably with a Starbucks cup in my hand. It was, obviously, the first stop I made when I got off the freeway.
I’m sure most of you have already seen their new, green cups while scrolling through your social media feeds. My Twitter folks were not too happy about this change. I, however, am digging it. Especially if you read the story behind it. It’s a mosaic of more than 100 people drawn in one continuous stroke. Howard Schultz, the CEO, stated, “During a divisive time in our country, Starbucks wanted to create a symbol of unity as a reminder of our shared values.”
I’m a fan. And, after last year’s red cup fiasco, I welcome the change. (Even though red cups will probably be arriving in a few weeks).
Anyway, that’s enough about the color of my cup. What’s more important is what’s INSIDE the cup, y’know? But, besides this coffee I’m sippin’ on this morning, I’m loving a few other things this week and I’ll share them below! As always, play along in the comments and tell me what you’re loving! I love reading them!

Our 2016 Halloween Experience
If you know me, you know Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I could do without it. I don’t really enjoy dressing up. Scary things freak me out. And, as I grow older, the excitement of drinking in a crowded place is not my cup of tea. I much prefer my couch. But, this year, we decided to venture to Angelo’s – along with the rest of the 1st and 2nd year med students. Both cohorts had finished a HUGE exam earlier in the day so everyone was ready to party. Ankur and I decked out in our emoji gear and I had so much fun people-watching all night. -
My “Real-Life” Blog
I love writing this blog so much. It was, honestly, one of the best decisions I made back in 2012. Over the past few years, I’ve been more reflective of my day-to-day events, grown into a stronger writer, and documented my journey along the way. However, moving to this little town has made me realize that there are certain aspects of my day-to-day that I don’t feel comfortable writing online. I disagree with a lot of things that are happening in the school systems. I have extremely different political views than our neighbors and most everyone who lives within a 500-mile radius. But these experiences – though challenging – are important to my development as a person. So, I bought this journal on Etsy to reflect on these moments a little more privately. It’s been fun keeping small memories in this book. It reminds me a lot of my childhood. Back when we used to keep diaries. Except now I’m a little more mature and don’t write entries that say, “Sarah was mean to me because she didn’t let me play with her new beanie baby.” -
Joseph’s Lavash Bread
I can’t seem to find these in stores anywhere, but they’re on Amazon (<—-affiliate link), thank goodness, so I’ve been getting them shipped to us every couple of weeks. They are perfect for pizzas and wraps. Since discovering them, pizza has become a more-than-once-a-week thing around here. However, it’s guilt-free because the whole “crust” is only 120 calories. And the lavash bread is BIG so you feel like you’re cheating. But you’re really not. It’s pretty wonderful.

That’s a wrap, my friends.
I’ll be back tomorrow. From Harrogate. Less exciting than Knoxville but at least it’ll be Friday! 🙂
Have a good one!
Questions of the Day:
- How do you feel about the green cups?
- Do you keep a private journal?
- Have you tried Joseph’s Lavash Bread before?
- What is one thing you’re loving this week?

I really like the green cups and the story behind it! People should just calm down and worry about other important things!
Happy Thursday xxx

I agree! I want to ask all those people what they do for a living. They could probably afford to prioritize something else!

I agree. People are always trying to make everything about religion. Just relax.

I love the sincerity that you write with! I recently wrote a paper for my servant leadership class on Starbucks and they truly give back to the community!

Yes! I’ve heard they offer their employees some pretty fantastic benefits too!

Interesting to know the green cup story…and I’m going to try those wraps! I LOVE pizza and need a little low cal alternative!

Me too! I love it so much. Can I recommend a GREAT sauce to use on your homemade pizzas? (I have no affiliation or ties to this company – though I wish I did). Have you heard of Rao’s? Their Arrabiata sauce is PHENOMENAL! (If you like a little spice!). I will not use another type of sauce anymore. I’m addicted!
Amber Myers says
I’ll have to try that bread.
The green cups don’t bug me either. So long as the contents are delicious, I don’t care what the cup looks like.

I don’t like green lol. Yes I have always kept a journal which I call a hate book primarily because I suffer from anxiety (thanks mom!) I need to get things out and the truth is at times you are the only one who understands.

That’s true! I intended to keep it daily, but I’ve made sure not to force that expectation on myself. Just when I feel the itch to write!

I love this post! Honestly I have to say that I was shocked and appalled about the Starbucks green/ red Christmas cups fiasco! It’s a cup that you drink your coffee out of and then throw away in to the garbage, there’s no attachment formed other than your lips to the cup when you take a drink. There are far more important things to be worrying about. But I loved what you said about writing this blog, it’s incredible the release you can get from writing in a blog.

Oh I love that you were in Knoxville! That’s where I live – it’s always funny to me to see people online who are from (or who spend time) in my home city! I guess it’s easy to forget, with people as far-flung as they can possibly be on the internet, that some of those people are from right here! I hope you loved your visit.
And I love Starbucks, too … it’s one of my all-time favorite places to go. Even my dog loves to go there!
eatteachblog says
Yes! I love your city so much. To be honest, I tell my husband I wouldn’t mind sticking around Tennessee for his rotations if we end up living in Knoxville. It’s got all the great things that a big city has (restaurants, STARBUCKS!, cute bars, etc.), but without the traffic and congestion. And there’s always PARKING! I really do love it and I try to get out here at least once every two weeks or so!
Penny Struebig says
I’m not a coffee drinker so many Starbuck’s things pass me by — but I’m a huge fan of the green cup. Love what it stands for!
Shannon Schroecker says
You have a wonderfully genuine voice when you write! I am not a huge fan of Starbucks but I still agree with you on the green cup debate.
eatteachblog says
Thanks so much!! I honestly don’t know when or how I became such a huge Starbucks fanatic. I think, at first, it was out of convenience. I didn’t like the taste as much because I felt as though it tasted like they burned their coffee grounds? But, after a while, I think I just became addicted after going so often! Eek. Hopefully, living in my small town – 70 miles away from a Starbucks – will curb the addiction!
Sheila Jo says
Haven’t tried that bread before, but am always up for a new bread!
I keep one of those thought-a-day journals – it has the benefits of a journal, but without much commitment!

Thanks so much for sharing–I’ve never heard of this Lavash bread, but now I’m uber curious to try! Also I like the new Starbucks cup and can’t believe people make a stink over everything these days.
PS: I’m the same when it comes to Halloween — but maybe that’s because I always prefer to cuddle up with a book. That said, meeting up with friends is always a good time 🙂 Hope you have a great week!! XO

I’m at Starbucks sipping on a Chestnut Praline Latte as I type this! You prompted me to take off the cup sleeve and take a look at the 100 people in 1 stroke. What a lovely concept.
I totally, TOTALLY understand the need to write something separate from your blog. My family and I moved to our current small town and state just a year and some change ago. I have never felt more like a minority in both the cultural and political sense than I do now. My outlet is writing for sure!

Good evening Divya. This blog of yours has been one of my favorite reads. The way you write straight from your heart is so heartfelt.
I will have to go to Starbucks tomorrow to check out the cups. Thanks for sharing the green cup story.

Good night.

I’ve never understood the hoopla around those paper/cardboard cups but, like you said, some folks will complain about anything. Strangely, I bought a coffee on Friday afternoon and it was served in their regular, standard cardboard cup so, I’m yet to see the green ones. I live in a fancy suburb where Starbucks rules so I’m kinda surprised not to see them here yet. 🙂
