On days when I had to leave Ankur overnight or for an extended period of time, I’d leave secret post-its around the apartment.
It was always fun to get texts from him when he would find one in the fridge, on his pillow, on the toilet seat, bathroom mirror, or even in the shower. (My favorite one was when he found one in the freezer on top of the ice cream carton. Because I KNEW he was gonna dig in while I was gone).
Now, with a baby, I don’t trust that the post-it notes will stick. He’ll probably try to eat them. (The baby. Not Ankur. Just to clear up any confusion).
So, I’ve stopped the post-its for now and, instead, we communicate like every other old couple: messages on the fridge.
Now, before I share this note I left Ankur on Monday, let me provide a little context.
You know that babies have that Moro reflex? Where they can’t really control their limbs? And that’s why their hands and legs are all over the place? It’s an involuntary motor response.
And it usually only lasts until 6 months or so.
And I KNOW this isn’t the Moro reflex, but Ishaan sometimes has this involuntary motor response with his left arm. Like when he’s SUPER JAZZED and SUPER excited about something, his left arm sort of punches the air to the side of him. It’s hard to explain. But if you’re on Instagram, I’m constantly sharing that left arm jab on my stories.
Any time he’s being chased, the left arm goes out, in, out, in.
It’s the FUNNEST THING. And I keep trying to capture it over and over and over on video because I know that some day he’s going to have control over it and I WILL MISS SEEING THAT VISIBLE EXCITEMENT SO MUCH!
Savage Love playing?
Wild left arm.
Someone chasing him?
Wild left arm.
Running after a pinecone he threw down on the ground?
Wild left arm.
Now that you’ve got that context, here’s the note we left for Ankur on Monday when we left for the night.
Peep that wild left arm.
It’s the wildest for his papa.
