Good morning and happy Monday!
I dubbed this past weekend “the weekend of sleep” because I got three consecutive days of 8 hours of sleep.
No, my little guy did not suddenly learn how to sleep through the night. Yes, I still woke up a few times.
But, OVERALL, I slept over 8 hours each night. And it was wonderful.
I did, however, have to sacrifice time I usually spend with Ankur. Because I passed out while putting the baby to sleep. But, clearly, my body was telling me it needed to get some rest. And I was happy to comply.
Ankur was working this weekend, so we got some quality Mama and Ishu time.
Friday
I’m back on the Fitbit wagon. (That’s how I tracked my sleep).
I had stopped using my Fitbit because I got an Apple watch and that doesn’t sync with the Fitbit app. But then, I was feeling all sorts of FOMO when I saw that my fam was still doing all those walking challenges.
So, I jumped back on and I’m SO HAPPY about it.
Nothing like a little competition to get you outside and moving. It’s also motivated me to check out the trail behind our apartment complex. Now Ishu and I do that walk every day.
We can get about halfway before he starts screeching to get out of his stroller. He doesn’t know how to walk in shoes yet, so we come home with some pretty dusty socks. But it’s worth it. He gets to see all the birds and bunnies up there and it’s much more scenic than our usual route to and around Starbucks and the Walmart parking lot.
Saturday
We went to Newport Beach just for the day. It was a fun little surprise cause my Mama thought we’d be staying in Moreno Valley. She did a little jig when we walked in through the garage door.
The baby makes her do all sorts of happy dances.
The minute we got there, she ushered him into his throne and handed him an entire avocado. He clearly went to TOWN.
But, maybe that wasn’t enough for him because then he wanted to eat all the stones in the fire pit when we went outside.
JOKES.
I’m not trying to feed my son rocks. (<– this message is for my mother who will inevitably read this and so I need to clarify).
We spent most of the day outside in the backyard and front yard. “Bahaar bahaar” (outside, ouside) is Ishu’s new motto.
It’s especially fun on a semi-windy day because he looks around at everything and probably wonders why all the things are moving. Like, are the leaves on the ground ALIVE?
When it was time to go, the parents sent us back with a huge bag filled with all the yummy food. So Ankur and I had quite the fanciful dinner on Saturday night.
I, of course, ate dinner and then immediately fell asleep when I was trying to put the baby BACK to sleep. I have no regrets.
Sunday
Another walk on the trail! But, first, a quick trip to Starbucks.
I’ve learned my lesson and bring a string cheese WITH me. So then Ishu can still have his string cheese while I have my Starbucks without me having to spend over a dollar on a string cheese.
I also could have brought my own coffee to save even more money, but let’s not get into that, OKAY?
Of course, Ishu Pishu got all sorts of dusty and dirty so it was bath time when we got home.
Which meant that he slept NICE AND WELL for his first nap of the day. From 10am to noon. So I got some stuff done and also made myself a salad using my new favorite dressing from Trader Joe’s. SO YUM.
When he woke up, he was a hungry hungry hungry kid.
Fortunately for us, we have all sorts of grandmamas that send us with food. So Ishu was all set with his chawal and dahi. He wouldn’t let me feed him. Of course.
He’s a messy, messy baby. But I read somewhere that getting to dig in the dirt and feel their food is all GREAT for a baby’s brain development. So all you haters who judge me for this messiness, ISHU’S BRAIN IS GROWING.
Ankur got done a LITTLE earlier than usual yesterday cause it was a no-call day.
So Ankur played with Ishu while I prepped some pasta for Ishu. It’s one of those things that’s so easy to eat, so easy to throw veggies in, and he’ll NEVER say no to it. So it’s always a go-to meal over here. For us too!
And, because Ishu skipped his second nap, we put him down to bed EARLY. Which MEANT that Ankur and I finally got some time together.
When I walked out of the room after Ishu had fallen asleep, we were both like, “WHAT? It’s still LIGHT outside. What do we DO with ourselves?!”
(And, if you’ve read the last couple of posts, you know that the answer was an episode of Shameless. Duh.)
Today
Since Ankur’s working a long day today, we are both headed to Newport again in a few hours.
Hope you all have a beautiful start to your week!
Questions of the Day:
How much sleep (on average) do you get a night? How much sleep do you NEED to be functional?
What did you do this weekend?

Sleep! It’s so important — and so elusive. Raising kids, of course, is an impediment to it. I’m glad you were able to get enough to restore yourself.
I love Trader Joes. That salad dressing looks delicious. I like all of the ingredients.
