A few days ago, Ankur pulled up Michael Scott’s Diwali song on YouTube and played it for Ishu.
Ishu, proving to be a fan of The Office, just like his mama and papa, fell in love with the song quickly and asked to play it on repeat.
If you watch his lips closely as the song plays in the background, you can see him attempt to sing along with it.
I LOVE IT.
He’s always loved music, but it’s fun to watch him now pay attention to the words in a song.
I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to do it, but yesterday, I pulled up my Song and Games book from UniCamp. It took me a while to find it. I had it stored in a folder, within a folder, within another folder.
We opened up the Word Document and started running down the list.
First, we sang Ping Pong Ball.
This song requires you to put your hands up to the side of your head like paddles, your head playing the role of a Ping-Pong ball. Bouncing back and forth between your hand-paddles as you sing, “I’ve got a head like a ping-pong ball, I’ve got a head like a ping-pong ball, I’ve got a head like a ping-pong ball, like a piiiiiiiing, like a ping-pong ball.”
That one hurt my neck. I don’t know how I did that so effortlessly back in my camp days.
Oh yes, that’s right, I was 20. I slept in bathtubs in Vegas. My body could do things they absolutely cannot do now.
Anyway, we made our way down the list and found what I think is Ishu’s favorite camp song.
When we get to the part where I say, “…and I hope it doesn’t peel…” he starts to grin real wide.
And then when I finish it off by saying, “LIKE A BANANA!” he is smiling SO BIG and looks over at Ankur like, “ARE YOU HEARING HOW COOL THIS SONG IS?”
Anyway, like I said, I don’t know why I haven’t pulled out the camp songs before now. I have a 2.5 year old, for crying out loud. This shit is golden.
Also, I feel like a younger, youthful, more energized version of myself when I’m singing these songs. Bringing back the old Woodsey in me.
I hope Ishu is a camp kid like his mama was.
And, based on his obsession with the Tarzan song, Imma go ahead and say I think he will be.
He’s already got the LOUD part down. The rest will come with time.
