Morning!
Ishu slept through the night pretty much, so I’m up and feeling like a happy camper. I think – during the week – he doesn’t get the full amount of sleep that he needs. At school, they’ve got nap time but they wake the kids up around 2:45 no matter what. Whereas, on the weekends, we tend to put him down earlier and then let him get up on his own.
So he’s definitely always in a happier mood on the weekends and I think it’s because he’s getting the sleep he needs.
One of the mamas from Ishu’s class picks her twins up at half-day so they can nap at home. Even though there isn’t a ‘half-day option’ for three-year-olds. She still has to pay for full-day, but is so adamant about them napping at home that she picks them up at noon each day. And I GET IT. I’m not gonna DO that, hahahha. But I GET IT.
Anyway, Ankur went on a boat ride with his co-residents to watch the fireworks last night. So Ishu and I were on our own. We went swimming, ate chicken burritos, played planes and trains, and then ended up falling asleep around 8:30pm. He fell asleep snuggling me in the big bed, but then I transferred him and he stayed in his bed the rest of the night.
15th star on the wall!
One more thing that is on my mind this morning. After drop-off yesterday, I was texting with one of my cousins. We were updating each other on life things. We both have had periods in our life where we were go-go-going. But, for the past year or so, we both have found ourselves living a bit more slower-paced. Work is work. Not too busy, but something to do. Not anything super inspiring or something we’re so so passionate about but gives us the freedom to have a more flexible schedule.
Anyway, all this to say, something she said resonated with me so much and I’m sharing it here in case it resonates with anyone else.
“I don’t think we’re ever ‘in’ a state of balance. The balance is the back and forth…Trying to find the state of smaller swings.”
Which feels SO HELPFUL to hear. It’s never a season of feeling perfectly centered. Some days you gotta give something 100% and other days, it only gets 40% of you.
Finding the state of smaller swings.
I love that.
Okay, I’m off to brush my teeth and do the things. Ishu is still sleeping (!!!!).
Have a good one 🙂
