I mean, listen.
I’m trying to be an optimist about this whole city thing. Starbucks on every corner. Restaurants a few steps away. SO much for Ishu to do.
But the convenience that people speak of? I have yet to find it. Haha.
Well, that’s not true. It’s definitely convenient in some ways. But, I’m finding that there are a lot of minor inconveniences too.
Like yesterday, for example. Costco was supposed to deliver our couch. We were originally going to head out to the suburbs to have a playdate! (My friend and old roomie, Beth, connected me with one of her childhood BFFs who also has a one year old). But, we ended up rescheduling with them so we could be here for the delivery.
Anyway, it didn’t end up happening. Because apparently our freight elevator becomes a regular elevator at 4pm because of foot traffic. So they had to pop the couch back into the truck and now, as I’m typing this, I’m on hold with Costco – with a 75 minute wait – to talk to someone in their logistics department.
Fortunately, Ishu is loving the elevator music and is currently dancing to it. So, you win some, you lose some.
But, yes, adjusting to all the rules of city life is hard. Other things I’ve found difficult are parking (for obvious reasons) and food delivery.
It used to be that I could get food delivered right to my door.
But now, in the building we live in, they require that all food deliveries get dropped off at a table in the lobby.
Which is fine and dandy, I guess. But what about when you have a sleeping toddler? How do you get downstairs to pick up your salad?
You can’t.
So, today, I’m feeling like city life is shit. And it’s no wonder so many people move to the suburbs when they have a baby. It’s just easier. Parking lots and no need for freight elevators and all that jazz.
I’ll probably come back tomorrow and tell you how cool the city is because you can get any flavor of Jeni’s ice cream at the market across the street.
The problem is it’s only fun to eat said ice cream IF YOU HAVE A COUCH to eat it on.
That is all I have to say today.
Love,
The Not So City Girl
Question of the Day:
Are you a suburb person, a city person, or a countryside person?
ShootingStarsMag says
I live kind of in the middle of both, so I guess suburbs? I do prefer where I live because it’s not always crowded and bustling like a city, but it’s still easy to get to the things you want and have stuff delivered unlike if I lived further in the country. I get your frustrations with this new city life though!! Hopefully the good will outweigh the bad in the end.
