We haven’t even hit hump day yet and I’m already scatterbrained from the week. On our last day in Hawaii, we went on a SUPER muddy hike and, instead of figuring out how I was going to bring my nasty sneakers home, I decided to toss them and start over when I got home. It was almost time to invest in some new ones anyway.
I got some new running shoes from Running Revolution and they sat in the trunk of my car for a few days as I fell back into the cycle of work-no gym-sleep, work-no gym-sleep, work-no gym-sleep. Until I realized that I was quickly falling back into last year’s habits. I was determined to wake up early this morning and get a run in before work. My alarm went off at 5AM and I painfully eagerly jumped out of bed to make the most of the morning. I brushed my teeth, changed my clothes, grabbed my headphones, put on socks and sandals (fashion faux paux), and walked out to my car to change into my running shoes.
Except my running shoes weren’t there anymore.
I searched in my trunk. I searched inside the car. I searched all around the car. But they were gone.
I ran back upstairs and looked inside the coat closet. I checked on the side of the couches. I looked on each dining room chair – because that’s usually where I toss things when I get home. I tore my room apart looking for those darn running shoes. And at around 6AM, I decided to call it quits. I just assumed that, in my attempt to make some extra room in the trunk, I must have taken out the running shoes, placed them on the ground and left them there on accident. There goes $100.
$100 that I didn’t even get to use. Not even once.
Except at around 7AM, as I was picking up my keys to leave the apartment, something BIG AND BULKY caught my eye.
And there they were. All along. In front of my flippin’ face.
I am a scatterbrain. I don’t even remember bringing them inside the house. I realize that, in the same way that I need to be proactive about being active, I need to be proactive about being more mindful. I forget how easy it is to slip into old habits. I just have to remember to catch myself.
With that being said, I am off to bed. And I will go for a run in the morning. Shoes and all.

Can I just tell you that I totally understand the cycle you’ve been going through?? I think the first 2 weeks of school are the hardest for me, so I tend to do the same thing: work-no workOUT-sleep. Of course with eating and drinking wine added in.
How was your run this morning?
