When Ankur, Ishu, and I shared a bed (long before Riyu entered our lives), Ankur and I loved to predict the word or phrase that Ishu would first say when he woke up. It was always something totally random. And it made us laugh every time. I’m sure I have archived blog posts sharing some of his morning monologues. (Yes, I did some digging. Here’s one. And another).
I was reminded of that this morning. When Ishu came into our room to use the bathroom and noticed I was awake, he came to my side of the bed and whispered, “Mama. After I brush my teeth, I really want a green lollipop. I won’t be SAD if you say no. But I’ll be really happy if you say yes.”
I laughed and whispered back, “Where am I supposed to find a green lollipop?”
“I don’t know,” he responded very matter-of-factly, “somewhere around this house!”
Ha.
Anyway, it made me laugh so hard. Especially the delivery of it all. So, after he ate a bowl of oatmeal and two eggs, I handed over a green Jolly Rancher to which he said, “IT’S A LOLLIPOP WITHOUT THE STICK!”
I can’t tell if he was happy because it was GREEN or happy because his request for candy got approved.
Either way, it made me miss those mornings snuggled up to this little guy. Riyu will get there. But right now, his first words every morning are, “MAMA DUDU BED.” Which, y’know, aren’t my FAV.
Still, despite the craziness of our sleep schedules and never getting time to ourselves, I do not – for one minute – regret sleeping next to my babies. I LOVE THEM SO HARD.
(I also want to be transparent and say that Ishu is at school and Riyu has been napping for over 2 hours at this point so it’s really easy to love them so hard when I’ve gotten some time to myself).
Okay, I’m going back to my YouTube cottage/jazz music escape + Abby Jimenez book.
Have a happy weekend!
