After an amazing weekend with Rosie and company, I’m off to SoCal for the holidays!
I’ve packed up my bag and, obviously, the first three things in the suitcase were my oils, Mexican Train Dominoes, and my Happiness Journal. #priorities
Very excited to be reunited with the family and investing time in the 5 R’s: Rest, Running, Reading, Reunions, and Restarting.
REST:
I’m usually the first one to bed. 8pm. Grandma status. But the last few weeks – since I got back from Thanksgiving – have been pretty hectic with holiday parties, dinners with friends, and other events. Which means my sleep has taken a toll. I’m very much looking forward to turning my 4:30AM alarm OFF until 2016.
RUNNING:
I can’t even remember the last time I went outside for a run. These early sunsets make it hard for me to go after work. And, even though I wake up pretty early in the morning, it’s dark until 6:45-7ish so a run before work is pretty challenging too. Over the next two weeks, I’m going to make it a point to run outside as much as possible! (Watch out Fitbit friends – I’m coming for you!)
READING:
I was overly ambitious over the Thanksgiving break and ended up purchasing a ton of books on the Kindle. I’m looking forward to curling up next to the fireplace, coffee in one hand and Kindle in the other. I finished The Nightingale over Thanksgiving, which is our book club book for January [So good. SO SO good]. Up next are: All The Light We Cannot See, Orphan Train, and My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry.
REUNIONS:
So many people to see and squeeze.
RESTARTING:
Every time I get a week or more off of work, it’s an opportunity for me to restart some of those healthy habits I shoved away during the chaos and craziness of the school year. You know, like NOT eating 5 cookies for breakfast.
I know the goal is to build sustainable habits that’ll last through the year, but life happens. And I’m not going to hurl myself over a building for mindlessly snacking on Cheez-its. I’m just going to use this opportunity to reset and restart.
Questions of the Day:
- How do you spend the time off work?
- What book are you currently reading?
- When packing, is your suitcase filled up with primarily clothes or other goodies you need while traveling?

Yes to all of this! I can’t wait! I’m traveling home to Philly alllllllll day Thursday (2 long flights from Alaska!) so I plan on doing so much reading. I’m currently reading Nothing Daunted which is a true story about two society girls back in the early 1900s who went out to teach in Colorado, but I’m probably going to be downloading Holly Madison’s book onto my kindle for the plane ride because I love reading sleazy books like that when I’m stressed out! I’m usually a big historical fiction nerd though. Orphan Train is great though, you’ll love that!
