I’ve got exactly two weeks left until I start work. So my little sidekick and I are soaking up every second we’ve got together.
Back in May, I was offered a job as a school psychologist with Chicago Public Schools. But I turned it down.
They couldn’t tell me which schools I’d be working at until the first week of work. And Chicago is BIG so I could have ended up anywhere.
And I have a one-year old to think about. So I kinda needed to know what my life was going to look like and prepare for it a little before blindly accepting a job.
So, yes, I turned it down.
I looked at all my options and thought, maybe, working from home could be a good option for this school year. We are new to the city. I wanted to have some flexibility with Ishaan being in daycare. And with the virus still kicking around, maybe this would be a good idea.
So, that’s what I’ll be doing for the 21-22 school year.
I’m doing teletherapy for a small school district in Washington state. Out of my home in Illinois. (I’m licensed in both states cause I guess you legally gotta be).
It’s going to be an adjustment, that’s for sure. It’s not like a “crunching numbers” or “making spreadsheets” kind of job, which makes sense to do from home.
I’ll be assessing and evaluating students. Over Zoom.
And, while many people have had some success with remote learning, I’m a little curious about how it’s going to work to test kids over the Internet.
But, I guess we’ll find out.
I’m planning to meet with the SpED director on Friday to plan out the year. And, while it’s not completely ideal (I definitely prefer being face-to-face!), I am happy to be working again. In a way that makes sense for my family at this time.

That’s crazy about the other job not being able to tell you where you’d be working. It sounds like this new job will be a good fit for the year, and I hope it goes well!
