Supply teachers don’t necessarily mean teaching one subject for a specific class for their lives. They go through training to be a teacher and without a job sign up for services like Simply Education to help them find supply jobs while looking for a regular teaching job. Simply Education helps people find a supply teaching job in their local area. This helps give supply teachers money to live on and help them build up their reputation as a teacher. Here is the rundown of what goes on inside the mind of a supply teacher:
Pressure
If you think about it, supply teachers who are very busy tend to be in different schools every couple of days therefore they must plan their classes accordingly the night before as the job may come up suddenly. And if there is no specific lesson plan, they work a lot of what to do for that class and probably lose a lot of sleep. They are not as tired as regular teachers but they still have a lot of pressure on them to teach their classes right.
Lesson Planning
If there is a plan for the class, the supply teacher writes them on the board using a whiteboard pen. The fact is that most supply teachers do not need to lesson prep as the regular teacher may have done it all for them and they only need to write the assignments on the whiteboard for the students. If all of the students are stuck on one part of the lesson plan then the supply teacher can use the whiteboard to solve the problem with the whole class rather than using paper and pen/pencil.
Less Time on Social Media
When thinking about social media and supply teachers, it may not seem much that 50% of Simply Education’s supply teachers use it for less than an hour a day but if they are busy how are they meant to find time to go on their social media. If you think about it, teaching classes and then having to prep for the next class during the school day is quite time consuming. The supply teacher may also be covering more than one class that day so there is little time throughout the whole day to look through social media for supply teachers.
Reading Books for Lesson Planning
If a teacher is sick unexpectedly, a supply teacher may need to use books to come up with a lesson plan for that class. They also need to read up for their next class if they do not know much about the subject. Films do not give all information as well, books give the full story, literally. This is probably why that 60% of Simply Education’s supply teachers prefer books to films. This also helps as with the growth of social media and film, books are being more and more unused and the supply teachers that do prefer books can give children a reason to read books instead of watching films.
Tea
When supply teachers go into schools, they may slob around on their break. Simply Education’s supply teacher have around 2 cups of tea a day mainly because they are either busy teaching or planning their next class. This helps to keep their energy high but their focus on what they have to do for the day ahead.
Simply Education’s supply teachers teach in a variety of subjects and 47% of them wish their superpower was unlimited knowledge. This is a fair statistic because teaching in one subject may not get the teacher the job they want. Having unlimited knowledge can help supply teachers gain many jobs while they are looking for regular jobs. Teaching in one subject may not get much money but teaching in a few or more different subjects will give the teacher a fair amount of work to do.

Some of my favorite teachers when I was growing up were substitute teachers. The substitutes knew how to make a classroom a little more fun!
