Good morning! Today is Ankur’s first day as a PGY-3 resident. And, I don’t know if this is going to be the norm moving forward, but he doesn’t start until 9AM THIS MONTH.
During their second year of residency, they have to do in-patient stuff. Which requires them to go in early for rounds. There’d be days he’d leave here at 6am. So 9am feels like a DREAM.
This means, I may be a ‘morning workout’ person once again. Take the 6am OTF class and then come home and have family breakfast.
Wowie.
Anyway, we’ll see how we settle into this new schedule, but I think it’s gonna be GREAT.
Yesterday, Katie left to go back to the Bay Area, but we took advantage of the morning and went to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Michigan Ave. We’ve been here a year now and I’ve been wanting to do that, but there’s always a line outside the building. I figured it’d take forever to get in, but they moved us along pretty quickly.
It is well worth the visit! They have five floors with something a lil different on each one.
The first floor is their “Reserve Coffee Bar” with their freshly roasted beans and some roastery inspired gifts.
The second floor is their bakery and café. Everything looked and smelled delicious.
The third floor is the experiential coffee bar, where you can order coffee flights and get a tour of the whole process. The fourth floor is the cocktail bar. And the fifth floor is a roof terrace!
We didn’t have the idea to go ’til the night before, so it was too late to book a tour. But, we toured the place ourselves. We got a couple items to share (a mix of savory and sweet!) and everything tasted so delicious. Katie got the dark chocolate mocha and I got the hazelnut-milk latte. BOTH SO GOOD.
I’d love to go back with a book and just sit along the window, looking down at Michigan Ave.
One of the great things about hanging out with Katie is she, similar to Ishu, brings the excitement to any place she’s in. It’s so contagious and – even if you feel indifferent about a place – she will MAKE YOU SEE how cool it is. It’s like she shook me up and said, ‘HELLO. I KNOW YOU’VE BEEN UNDER A FOG FOR TWO YEARS AS A MOM, BUT LET’S GET ALIVE AGAIN!”
I’m grateful we got this past week with her. And so grateful that her and Ishu bonded as well as they did! Before she left, she gave him a Legos set with his fav dinosaurs. And so we spent the remainder of the day playing with that. He loves it so much he brought the motorcycle and the Triceratops to bed with him last night. Ha.
Now, he’s still sleeping! So I may go make a cup of coffee and bolt outta here for some OrangeTheory fun!
Hope you all have a good one!
