Morning!
I thought we’d maybe settle into a new normal because of the time change. On Sunday, Ishu woke up at 7am, so I thought, THIS COULD BE IT. THIS COULD BE IT. We could be 7am wakers!
But, alas, he’s up at 6am today.
And even had the audacity to walk into the living room saying, “IT’S DARK OUTSIDE.”
YEAH, BUDDY. IT’S DARK OUTSIDE.
Luckily, he’s a happy little clam playing with some new toys gifted to him by his Chacha. While I can sit here and recap the weekend!
Let’s go!
Friday
We recently started getting boxes from Imperfect Foods and it’s been helping us eat so many more fruits and veggies in our day. (Click the link to see if they deliver in your area if you wanna subscribe and get $80 off groceries!).
On Friday morning, since I had a little extra time, I decided to make a fun little breakfast spread for us. Perfect way to kick off the weekend.
After Ankur left, I got a couple things done for work, but my first meeting of the day was cancelled so we bundled up and went outside to play in the little bit of snow at the playground.
I spent the remainder of the day working (and got a workout in!) while sweet Auntie Bella and Ishu spent some time together. I’m convinced she’s got some super magical child-whispering powers in her. Her calm demeanor and quiet voice make Ishu feel safe and so loved. Sometimes when I’m feeling stressed and not-so-patient, I take a deep breath and try to channel my inner Auntie Bella. She’s so great and I can’t Imagine raising this kiddo without her!
Saturday
St. Patty’s Day celebration!
Ankur’s PGY-2 class all had the weekend off so they planned a “retreat” and, on Saturday, they apartment-hopped their way through Streeterville.
At the first apartment, we had brunch. And then our apartment was next. To limit the drunken debauchery. I made my famous Grinch Spritzer, but called it Shamrock Spritzer because, well, gotta go with the holiday theme. (But also too lazy and set-in-my-ways to try creating a new cocktail).
Ishu was, of course, the life of the party. And slightly confused why there were so many humans congregating in our living room.
It was nice getting to meet some of the faces I had heard about, but hadn’t yet met thanks to the pandemic.
After they left for the next apartment, Ishu went down for a nap while I binge-watched Jane the Virgin. Ankur came home around 6ish. The rest of his class was hanging out in the hot tub at the apartment building across the street. But he came home to take a quick break, ’cause he’s not a spring chicken anymore. (He’s the oldest one in his cohort and also the only one with a kid).
Eventually, he gave in to his tired and decided to call it a night. Ha. I’m actually surprised (and impressed!) he lasted as long as he did.
But, of course, leave it to Ishu to change his mind about wanting to go out again. So he took off his ‘party’ hat and put on his ‘papa’ hat for the rest of the night. 🙂
Sunday
Sunday morning, I left the two of them at home and went for a workout. I also picked up some groceries before heading back.
At noon, Nikku’s flight landed! Ankur went to the airport to pick him up while I stayed back with Ishu for his nap.
Ishu woke up shortly after they got back. And, at first, he seemed a little irritable. But then he saw his Chacha and his mood changed quickly.
He hopped outta bed and, within minutes, we were dressed and ready to go out to lunch.
We wanted to eat somewhere along the river, but because it was so nice out, everyone else had the same idea.
We ended up at Bombay Wraps where Ishu happily ate some chole/chickpeas and drank Limca out of his St. Patty’s Day shotglass.
The rest of us got chicken wraps and then we walked over to the Riverwalk to see the green river.
Ishu was more into the double-decker bus and the drummers on Michigan Ave. and not so much the “green paani,” but it was pretty fun for us adults to see. So many pictures being taken along the river. Us included.
It felt like a sneak peek of summer. So many people out and about, taking advantage of the sunshine.
We ended the day at the park. It was nice to get an extra hour of sunshine in the evening! I was surprised that it was already 5:30 when we were heading home.
We decided to stay in for dinner and ate some Five Squared Pizza + a side salad. And then crawled into bed relatively early because we were pretty exhausted from our fun sunshine-filled weekend!
And now it’s a new week! WARM(er) week. And Nikku is here all week long for the APS conference so it feels extra special. Ishu is pretty pumped to have him here. (And we are too!).
Hope you all have a happy, warm-er week as well!
