There is nothing more comforting than free food and a clean home. While free food is a bit tough to get, a clean house is totally possible, yet most of us neglect the home-cleaning part. Usually, we are so caught up in our busy schedules that we tend to easily compromise on our cleaning standards, but the real deal comes when we are expecting some guests. Then, the whole reality crashes in our lazy-comfort mind image and before you know it, panic hits. In order to save yourself from this confusion and panic, here are some easy-breezy cleaning tips which will get your place sorted in minimum time:
1. Beat the Kitchen
The toughest and usually the last area to get cleaned is the kitchen, simply because it takes so much time to get it sorted! However, you can always work your way in, you just need to be a bit clever. Before you hit the dishes and stoves, keep them soaked in water. It will help you get rid of the stickiness and grease easily. In the meanwhile work your way on the stoves and get the den of dirt cleared. By the time you are done with it, all your dishes will be easier to deal with.
2. Get Rid of Pet Hair
One of the biggest messes you will ever deal with, is pet fur on your furniture, carpets and floors. While there is absolutely no way to control their hair-fall, you can always manage to clean it. Save yourself the unnecessary headache by getting your kitchen gloves on, slighting dampening them and rubbing it over your furniture. You will be amazed at just how quickly and easily the fur gets picked up. Plus, if you want to have even better results, take a hot glue gun and draw random patterns on the kitchen glove. After it cools, slightly dampen it and pet your beloved animal. Their hair will stick to it and there will be less hair for your carpets and furniture.
3. Make Use of the Newspaper
Got greasy windows or glass tables that just won’t clean up? Don’t jump into them with glint and other solvents. Instead use newspaper to clean off greasy glass surfaces. Rub it gently in circular motions and you will be amazed at just how easily it will wipe off all the mess, that is because the newspaper absorbs the extra oil. So in case you have misplaced your cleaning cloth or are too lazy to buy a new one, just simply grab a newspaper.
4. Use Pillow Cases to Clean the Fan
If you think pillow cases are only meant for protecting pillows, then be prepared to be utterly thrilled today. First of all there is nothing more harder than cleaning fan blades. They usually don’t require much maintenance, but gradual build-up of dust can be really hard to get rid of. Plus, they are so high, who can possibly think of cleaning them every week? This is where your pillow cases will blow you away. The most easy way to clean fan blades is to open up your pillow case and slide it on to the blades. Pull off the case from one side and Voila! Clean blades in no time.
5. Fabric Softener Sheets
Nothing will drive you more crazy then the extra static energy because it just loves to attract all sorts of dirt. This is the reason it’s so hard to clean your desktop and television screens. What you need is something that kills the static off, so that you can wipe off the dirt and clean those screens once and for all. This is where you should make use of fabric softener sheets to clean those crazy-buzzing screens and, yes, it will keep the dust off for a few days.

I am in the middle of the kitchen right now. We put in a new floor and it was done yesterday, so now on to the rest of the room….

I use a broom to wash my shower floor and walls. The bristles scrub and I don’t have to do as much bending.

Great tips, Divya! I have been trying to tackle several areas in the apartment piece by piece because all at once is overwhelming. Love the idea of pillowcases on the fan blades. GENIUS! Or get a tall bf to do that part. Whoops. I may have just given away my secret 😉
HUGS and can’t wait to hear about your trip!!

I love hack #5, I’ll have to give it a try. My cleaning hack is to fill stuck on pans with water and heat them on low. As they heat up I gently scrape off the food with a spoon.

Here’s a trick that I picked up when I briefly worked at Starbucks – clean your windows with coffee filters instead of paper towels or a cloth! It doesn’t leave any residue behind. I thought we did it just to be cutesy – like, oh look, baristas wash the coffee shop windows with coffee filters, lol! – but nope! It’s brilliant.

I’d never thought to use pillow cases like that…absolutely brilliant! I clean the blades often but like the idea that the dust will be caught in the pillow case and not float all throughout the rest of the room.

These are excellent tips and I’ll be putting them to good use. We don’t have ceiling fans in any houses in the UK really though but that’s useful to know about.
I loved your Hawaii posts and I’ve just published one about my trip to Maui and another one on O’ahu on the way.
