I moved up to Northern California over two months ago, but I am still trying to lock down a routine that works for me. I’ve had to make adjustments – I am no longer the recent graduate that had all the time in the world to eat and run and cook and explore. I am now a professional (ha, I can’t even TYPE that with a straight face) who still eats (mainly out of stress), doesn’t know how to run (or rolls her ankle trying), and works and works and works. Oh, and then I work a little bit more.
So, adjustments are being made. I’ve already filled up my desk drawer with snacks so I don’t go 8 hours without eating (you DON’T want to see what happens when I’m hungry):
I’ve also signed myself up for TWO bootcamps. Call me crazy, but I am a lot more efficient when my workouts are planned in advance. And both bootcamps were inexpensive, close to home, and had GREAT reviews. So I just decided to sign up for both. I know I may regret this some day in the future…
The first bootcamp was a Living Social deal. $40 for unlimited bootcamp for 6-weeks?! That’s unheard of. I’ve only gone 4 or 5 times now, but I’m already waddling around the classroom and wincing when I get in and out of my car. So CLEARLY it’s wonderful. Don’t you just love that feeling of every single muscle in your body screaming curses at you for the horror you put them through? With any slight movement, you feel like you MAY fall down. And when you feel like there’s a sense of urgency at work and you have to run to the teacher’s workroom, other teachers glance over and think you have a stick up your ass – literally. LOVE it.
The second bootcamp is being hosted online by Tina Reale. It’s an 8-week fitness program called Best Body Bootcamp. I’ve heard nothing but great things, so I’m excited to try it out! The best part about it is that she differentiates the program depending on people’s fitness levels and abilities. Which makes it a LOT less intimidating. (Not to mention I’ll be doing it in the privacy of my own home. So if I topple over, IT NEVER HAPPENED!).
Someone once told me (AKA I read it on Twitter and can’t remember who said it) – if you schedule your workout in like an appointment, you’ll be more likely to stick to it. You don’t bail on appointments so you won’t bail on your workout. I sign up each week and I stick to it – partially because I love it, but partially because I’m scared I’ll be called out for not going 😉

The reason you can’t go more than a few hours without needing to snack is because you have trained your body to only use sugar and carbs as energy and can’t burn fat for fuel. If you cut out all the sugar and grain from your diet you can become fat adapted like me and stop snacking. Fat adapted is when you can easily burn fat for energy and can go long periods without eating. I routinely fast for 18 to 24 hours without getting hungry. You can also save a lot of money by cutting out snacks.
