Scorpions and Giggles
Our walks to drop Ishu off at school have been so fun lately.
Both kids feed off each other’s silliness and it makes for such a joy-filled little commute.
I’m always pushing the stroller (because, of course, the one day I leave it at home, Riyu’s gonna decide he doesn’t want to walk anymore). The stroller carries all the things. But the two of them just enjoy their little frolic each morning.
Ishu’s a ball full of energy, like always. He runs up ahead, then looks back at us, pointing dramatically at something off in the distance and yelling, “RIYU, IS THAT A SCORPION?!”Ā
Riyu inevitably looks behind him and Ishu uses that opportunity to hide behind a pillar or a door.
And then when Riyu finally spots him again, it’s CHAOS AND GIGGLES AND JUST SO MUCH DELIGHT.
Yesterday, after a couple of “scorpion” call-outs, Riyu became a little immune. At that point, I suggested Ishu try calling out something else.
He screamed, “RIYU, IS THAT A BLACK WIDOW BEHIND YOU?”Ā
Riyu didn’t even flinch.
So I said, “No. Something different. Like, HEY I see Papa over there!”Ā
To which Ishu immediately gasped, “PAPA?! WHERE IS HE?! I DON’T SEE HIM.”Ā
I love it. It makes me so happy and giddy that these two little goofballs are mine.
Yesterday was such a beautiful fall day.
After we dropped Ishu off, Riyu and I walked to Lincoln Park, grabbed coffee from Elaineās (hot chocolate for Riyu), and strolled around for a bit. Around 11:30, I debated going back home for his nap, but it was too beautiful to head indoors. Especially now that itās getting dark so early.
So we decided to wander into the zoo for a while. Eventually, he fell asleep in the stroller, so I ran a few errands (farmers market, library book pick-up, the usual) and then decided to pick Ishu up a little early because I wanted him to enjoy the beautiful fall day with us.
It was such a full day. Lots of fresh air, walking, sunshine, FALL COLORS, and even book club later that night. But gosh this city is so darn pretty right now with all the colors and crisp air. I want to soak it all in while I can!
And now, I’m off to do just that.
Thanks for reading, friend. Hope you find a little bit of sunshine (or silliness) in your day today.
