Because of my full day adventures last weekend, I started off this weekend with a bit of a cough/cold.
I was pretty determined to get rid of it (because, lesson learned from February of last year, I cannot function at work when I’m dying). So, on Friday, after staying at work until 8PM, I made my way home and passed out early.
Saturday:
I woke up around 6:45 and got some errands done in the early morning. Beth and I invested in a house cleaner twice a month (best investment EVER) and today was the first day they were planning on coming. So I wanted to get a ton of my cooking out of the way beforehand so that I wouldn’t dirty up the kitchen afterward. I was really excited to start prepping some of the veggies from the box this week – especially the corn on the cob. But then I saw this….
…..and decided to toss the corn in the trash. A truly organic experience. I probably could have saved the corn, but I got a little creeped out when the little thing started started wiggling in there.
After the apartment was cleaned up (MAN, it looks amazing. They lifted up the couch to vacuum and everything. The real deal), Jen and I drove over to Santa Cruz to do a 4-mile scenic run.
We planned to do running intervals, but with my cough and inability to breathe, there was more walking involved than I would have liked. Thank goodness for best friends who love you even though you ruin their workouts! 🙂
After our run/walk, we went to Vasilis, a Greek restaurant on the west side of Santa Cruz. Food tastes so delicious when you’re starving.
On our drive back, we stopped by Burrell School Winery to pick up my shipment and enjoy some light tastings! When we were walking up to the tasting room, we saw a guy ‘stomping’ the grapes. IT WAS THE COOLEST (and also really hard to see through this picture).
It was a beautiful day out, so we took our tastings to the patio to enjoy the live music.
We left around 5PM so Jen would have enough time to get ready for the concert she was going to. And the rest of the night, for me, was spent in bed or on the couch. I seriously love my nights in.
Sunday:
First stop – Philz.
Second stop – San Francisco.
Adam and Rachel were in town this weekend so I drove up to the city to meet up with them for brunch. Ananth planned a fun outing at The Park Tavern, which was a GREAT suggestion. And Fay, a now NorCal resident (YAY!) came too. My heart gets so happy when we are together.
The first thing I noticed when I was scrolling through Yelp was that they had a drink called the John Daly (obviously you scroll through the cocktails menu before the actual brunch menu. Priorities, people). The John Daly was a simple tea-infused vodka + lemonade. I have been CRAVING this for the past few weeks and all grocery stores and liquor stores I’ve been to have stopped selling sweet tea vodka. I asked our waiter and he said they infuse the vodka themselves. So, maybe I’ll have a DIY day. Who wants to join?
We ordered a deviled egg to start with and it was, by far, the best thing I’ve ever eaten. That crunch factor from the bacon really sealed the deal.
We all sampled a bit from each others plates and every single dish was DELICIOUS.
After brunch, we walked up to The Coit Tower for some beautiful views and then made our way over to Golden Gate Tap Room to watch some football.
I get sad every time I leave Rachel. Both of us are pretty terrible at keeping in touch, but when we’re together, it’s like nothing has changed at all. I’m trying to convince her and Adam to move up north! 🙂 I’m also going to work harder at keeping in touch with people I care so much about!
Now, after a beautiful weekend, I’m revved up for another solid work week. Happy Monday!

I probably would have cried about the corn/caterpillar. A bit too organic for me as well! All your eats look delish 🙂 What grade do you teach?
