I haven’t done a “Scenes from This Weekend” post in a while because I was trying, for a while, to have this space be focused on inspirational moments and deep reflection. But I miss writing here. I miss writing at length. And I miss sharing my mundane day-to-day pictures. Not just the ones that are “Instagram worthy.”
And, seriously, screw the structure. I didn’t start this blog so that I could only use it when I felt inspired. I made it so I would have a place to share my daily activities – not just the exciting days.
So, on to the weekend shenanigans.
Lately, Friday evenings are the time I get some serious studying done. My assignments for class are all due on Saturday night and, since I rarely get a chance to work on them during the week, I tend to have a “happy hour in” while I whittle away at them.
But, this past Friday, a few of the special educators decided to go out for drinks and dinner and it was exactly what I needed.
We are often running from place to place throughout the day without any common time to check in with one another. Some of us share kids and, though we have a few seconds to say, “Hey, she’s acting a little out of sorts,” or, “Are you going to a PLC today?” we don’t REALLY have the time to talk in depth about anything. So it felt really nice to be able to sit and share funny stories and heart-warming moments with our little ones.
Needless to say, I was exhausted when I got home and didn’t make a huge dent in my assignments.
On Saturday, I woke up early and was determined to get through everything quickly so we could make it to an early Friendsgiving dinner!
We were late by an hour and didn’t stay for very long, but if you follow me on Facebook, you already know just how happy it made my heart.
On Sunday, Ankur and I both studied in the morning and then, around noon, we went out to do old people things. Like make a trip to Starbucks, return clothes to Old Navy, and make a Costco run. Because this is 30. And Costco samples are LIFE.
I spent the rest of the evening doing a little contract work for Rocketship, making dinner, and studying a little more. I think my eyes and my brain aren’t really used to all the concentrated screen time. Earlier in the school year, my left eye was twitching non-stop and I was coming home with pretty bad headaches each day. I know it was due to eye strain from so much screen time so I got myself these nifty blue light blocking glasses from Amazon.
I’ve been on my computer all weekend and didn’t experience a single eye twitch. So I’m thinking these things are actually pretty magical.
Anyway, I know life isn’t all that exciting when I type it out. Still, these “non-exciting” weekends are my favorite. Because they force you to find the special in the small things.
Feeling very fortunate after this weekend. I was so happy to see my friends. I got a LOT of work done. Which means this Thanksgiving week won’t feel as stressful and I can just sit back, wear my yoga pants, and eat ALL THE MASHED POTATOES.
Speaking of mashed potatoes, it feels really fun to be a normal person around Thanksgiving. By “normal person,” I mean a person who isn’t trying to eat low-carb. Or low-fat. A person who doesn’t force herself to count calories. Or points. A person who doesn’t freak out when someone pours some ginger beer in my cocktail because GINGER BEER HAS SUGAR.
I’m excited to just BE. And live.
Oh, I’m just so grateful.
I hope you all had the best weekend and hope you enjoy this short week of work!
Questions of the Day:
- What was the highlight of your weekend?
- Are you all about that Costco free sample life?

Sounds like a lovely weekend. I’m glad you got to go out and spend time with some co-workers Friday. Yay for getting lots done so you aren’t stressed over break either. And good for you for just living and not worrying about the carbs, etc. Sometimes you just need to live life!
