Good morning, good morning!
We had a fun weekend over here, thanks to the nice weather that pivoted back to summer temps. It’s going to be in the 80s today and then it’s all downhill from here, according to the weather app.
So, if you’re wondering where we’ll be all day today, the answer is OUTSIDE.
I have always preferred colder weather to hot. But that was because I spent most of my life in California. Cold in California is bearable.
But cold here? In Chicago? I’m terrified.
So, I’m going to celebrate the fact that it’s 80 degrees and humid. And savor it. Because, come winter, I’ll probably be crying icicles.
Let’s do a quick weekend recap before we head outside for the day, shall we?
Friday
We discovered this husband/wife duo that make Detroit-styled pizza and deliver it to you between Friday-Sunday. They take orders earlier in the week through their Instagram account. Ankur and I were both really looking forward to our Friday night dinner! Fortunately for us, our order was plenty for both Friday and Saturday night dinner. If you’re in Chicago, I highly recommend trying it out! It was fun to mix and match and sample all of them (you can get four different kinds in a box).
Saturday
Ishu and I went to the Navy Pier for a couple hours to celebrate Chicago Live Again! The return of theatre to Chicago! There were music and performances happening all over the pier. In one more enclosed section, they required you to get a wristband by showing proof of vaccination or negative COVID test. I don’t carry my card around with me, but quickly remembered that I had shared a picture of it on social media. And that, along with a glance at my ID, was enough for them to hand over a wristband.
See? My oversharing comes in handy sometimes, Mom.
After the pier, we went to the park. Where Ishu kept calling out for EMM-ETT. EMM-ETT.
There were other kids there. But none of them were Emmett. And I had to pee. So I convinced him that it was time to go using my supermom persuasion.
We Portaled with the fam, ate leftover pizza, and danced to the Elmo playlist until it was time for bedtime.
Sunday
The three of us hung out at home for the first half of the day. Ankur and I were exhausted. We were just recently talking about how Ishu has gotten better at sleeping. And then the universe laughed at us and had him waking up every hour on Saturday night.
So, despite the two cups of coffee I had, I still had a lingering headache. We took it easy in the morning and then I ended up napping with Ishu in hopes that the headache would disappear. The nap definitely helped.
When we woke up, Ishu and I went down to the Riverwalk to hear some live music at one of the beer gardens. Ankur stayed home to study. Which was just as well because we didn’t end up staying for very long.
It’s hard to contain this little guy in a crowded place when it’s just me. So, I buckled him up back into his stroller and we, instead, went to the Children’s Museum.
We went into this exhibit that we haven’t been in yet. Mostly because I thought it wasn’t age-appropriate. But the staff member said if he could walk, he could do it. As long as he wore a helmet. (Which, BY THE WAY, he looked SO CUTE in).
The exhibit is called the “Cloud Buster,” which is basically this climbable structure made of steel and wood and wire and fiberglass. And it’s perched over the Navy Pier’s pavilion. It’s a little topsy turvy and for someone who still tends to fall over when he’s looking up and walking at the same time? It can be a little scary.
But I was impressed with how far he did manage to go before he decided to say, “Bas, Mama,” and head back down. He’s a real daredevil, this kid.
After that, we went to the other areas of the museum. And explored the Tinkering Lab a little more. Which, again, I initially thought wasn’t an exhibit for his age. But, turns out, they have a little corner which is perfect for toddlers.
When we were done with the museum, we went and splashed around in the fountain outside. Figured it’s probably our last hurrah (unless we go today) before summer is officially declared OVER.
Ankur met us there (thankfully, with a towel and a change of clothes). And the three of us walked home together, taking a minor detour to show Ankur a nice scenic area we frequent sometimes.
When we got home, Ishu took a bath. And ate some ravioli. And Ankur made us some corn soup! DELICIOUS.
We Portaled with the fam again. Ishu kept them entertained with his balloons and Elmo book and pretty much everything he does and says.
And then I put him to bed and uploaded some pics from the weekend to write this post!
And now we’re here. Monday. Again.
I gotta be honest. The Sunday scaries aren’t that bad for me right now. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t started testing kids yet so the workload is pretty minimal. Or if it’s because I’m working from home. Or maybe it’s because I’m so damn distracted by my child that I can’t even pause to feel the stress of the work week.
Whatever it may be, I’m grateful.
I feel like I can genuinely ENJOY my Sundays without the constant worry of what’s to come.
Let’s hope they remain this way for the rest of the school year!
Hope you found a way to keep your Sunday scaries at bay! Happy Monday to you all!
